COMPLETE LOSS OF DOLBY VISION (HDR) IN VIDEOS DUE TO DROPBOX UPLOAD
I noticed that videos from my iPhone 12 Pro Max, which originally had high quality due to Dolby Vision (HDR) technology, completely lost this technology and quality after I uploaded them to Dropbox. ...

2 years agoHey Sylvan , welcome to our Community!
Keep in mind, that the mobile Dropbox app uploads your content in full resolution.
However, when you try to preview them inside the app, you will see a scaled down version for faster loading.
With that being said, do you notice the same behavior in the loss of the HDR quality, even if you upload the content to Dropbox, and then you download it locally to the device?
Do you happen to have any screenshots, in order for us to have a visual too?
Keep us posted, and we'll take it from there!

I conducted several tests. I uploaded video files with DOLBY VISION (HDR) quality, downloaded them later on both the computer and the phone to watch the videos in appropriate programs that support DOLBY VISION. In all cases, I observed the loss of DOLBY VISION due to Dropbox. Even the iPhone itself, when playing the video file, indicates the presence of HDR. I trusted the Dropbox upload, but now I am at a disadvantage as I lost the quality of various videos that I uploaded to Dropbox. I am trying to find a way to regain the quality and then explore if there is any way to upload to Dropbox without losing video quality.

Hey Sylvan , thanks for the added info!
If you compare a file before uploading it to Dropbox, and after uploading to Dropbox and downloading it again, do you notice any change in the metadata/size/etc?
Can you attach some screenshots here, in order for us to have a visual too?
Also, do you upload the content manually by pressing the + button, or using camera uploads? If you do it using a different way, let me know.

I will run more tests and generate a report on the results. Initially, I observed that most of the photos I sent via the app's plus function successfully uploaded the file. However, when I later downloaded them, they had lost the DOLBY VISION and were in H.264 format, completely devoid of DOLBY VISION. I am conducting tests and analyzing files that were sent via the app's native download feature, without using the plus function, and I will test new videos as well. How can I send videos and photos here (on this forum)? I await instructions.
