Dropbox/keynote/pages integration
Hi. So I know this may very well be a problem on my end, but I can’t seem to solve it so I thought I’d try here. I’m using a new iPad pro, and I’m having trouble using it with pages and Keynote. If I have a file saved in dropbox and I want to edit it, I ‘open in’ Pages/Keynote, and then I start working on it. After a while, I’ll get a message saying that ‘the file has been deleted in another location’ and then the file closes. When I go to look for it, I find many versions of the file at various stages of my editing having been saved in dropbox, but not the most recent one. So I thought maybe I was doing it wrong but as far as I can tell, I should be exporting the file from dropbox to the other app, then working on it, then when I’m done, saving it back to dropbox. But that’s just what I’m doing. Am I completely misunderstanding the iPad workflow? I’m not a newbie but this is my first time trying to use an iPad as my sole computer. Thanks!
- Thanks for posting on the Forum on the issue you’ve experienced, let’s work on that together!
- Initially, assuming that you’re running the latest version of the Dropbox application on your phone (82.2), can you also ensure you’ve installed all OS updates? Also, ensuring that you’re running the latest version of Pages/Keynote, where you’re editing your files on your phone is also advisable.
- Secondly, are you getting any error messages? Any detail you could include would be extremely helpful, as well as any screenshots, so that I make sure we’re on the same page.
- Last but not least, as you might be getting the duplicate files due to a connectivity issue (eg. have you noticed any latency in your network by any chance?), have you tried repeating while connected on your data provider?
Thanks again & once I have this info, I’ll do my best to analyze & troubleshoot with you here!

I have the same issue, I have the most recent versions, there is no one working on it at the same time, and I have no connectivity issue. Did anyone get an actual solution to this problem?
I used to be able to copy the file to keynote, then reupload to Dropbox without any issue, deleting the previous version.
Now for some reason there are lots of conflicting copies being saved to Dropbox, but in addition, I can be working inside keynote and the while I'm in the same document, same session, it seems to revert to an earlier saved copy, and when I scroll up the most recent amendments are all gone...
If this is more likely to be an issue with Keynote rather than Dropbox it would be great if someone at Dropbox could confirm either way
many thanks

I've found the solution to this in my case - under keynote settings on my iPad , I changed the storage location from 'icloud' to 'dropbox'
I think it was trying to save in 2 places at once, causing the conflicted copies. Have no problems now

I'm having the same issue when working with pages on my iPad pro. Hundreds of conflicted copies are created. This does not appear to be a problem with other programs. I have fixed this by taking the file out of dropbox and working on it locally. Once I finish I return it to dropbox. Is there a less convoluted fix?
- Janethethird16 years agoNew member | Level 2Yes my original ‘fix’ of changing the keynote settings to ‘save to dropbox’ only worked temporarily! Then the problem started again.
What I do is turn off WiFi to work inside keynote, then turn it back on to upload the new version - JCNC6 years agoExplorer | Level 3
It seems like saving "only to iPad" is currently working and still syncs with dropbox when the file is opened within dropbox. We'll see how long it lasts!

Issue still exists on my iPad Pro.
Any news from the DB-team?

Hi Tobi7; how are you today?
I'm sorry for the late reply; are you still having issues with this?
If you do, please elaborate on your query and send us a screenshot -if possible- so we can have a look too.
I'd also suggest ensuring that you're running the most recent versions of the apps in question and your device's OS as well.
Keep us posted!
