Started this week. On my phone I can open an Excel file in Dropbox as a preview but when I click on the edit button I get the Office Excel opening (Downloading from Dropbox) screen, then it flips to...

thank you very much. I hope they review the earlier posts with the screenshots from others (just like my situation) and consider the possibility that this is a microsoft bug.
really appreciate your assistance.

It’s my pleasure, Barbara! Glad I could help, even a little.

They never fixed the issue and kept giving me the runaround for months. Their answers never addressed the problem, just blamed Microsoft.
I still can't open a .xlsx or .docx the file with the dropbox app.

did you try erasing your iPad and reinstalling from backup?
Barbara
- Agg0282 years agoNew member | Level 2I started having this issue two weeks ago.
I have trued uninstalling and re-installing both apps. Ive tried opening from each app. Ive tried making the file available offline. None of those things have resolved the issue. - bbeck2 years agoExplorer | Level 4
It’s really annoying. And the dropbox support people have not yet been very helpful. I don’t need instructions on how to use excel files in dropbox. Right now I have to edit excel files in drop box on my Mac . And just read them on the iPad.
Barbaraps I have been communicating w dropbox support for about a week already…

I found a workaround so excel now functions w dropbox on the iPad !!!
I go into the files app on the iPad . The files app looks like a folder. In this app, you should see all your files folder, including iCloud files, PDF expert, dropbox, etc. . If you don’t, click on the 3 dots at the top and click edit sidebar. Then add dropbox.
once dropbox is in your files folder, excel is now functional. No more endless Microsoft Integration loop.
and no more less than helpful assistance from dropbox support. They should give me a free subscription for figuring this out. And now, they have an idea as to where to look for the problem to fix it.
if you open an excel file directly from the files folder (you don’t have to click on the icon to open the file in excel), it opens right away, syncs, etc.
open dropbox from the iOS files folder and voilá, when you click on a drop box excel file, it opens right away! You don’t have to click on the little icon that says open file in excel.
