Thanks for posting on the forum, speilee!
Just a clarification; are you referring to the files currently uploaded to your Dropbox account here, or have you also enabled computer backup and you’d like to make sure your main computer folders (Desktop/Documents/Downloads) go back to their original locations first?
Let me know, and we’ll take it from there.

I have the same issue. Still getting 'link' on documents 'where are my files". I want to get all of my files back on my computer as I no longer want to use Drop Box.

I removed the Drop Box App but my files still appear to be on Dropbox. When I look at the Documents folder I have recent files and then the DropBox Icon with 'Where are my files'. How do I get ALL of my files back into the Documents folder?

I want to do the same. Dropbox has caused a mess on my computer (mac) and I've been trying to drag all the files in the dropbox folder to my portable hard drive. I removed the checks in the boxes for backup to dropbox but it appears some folders I dragged into the portable drive are empty. How do I get all my files downloaded from dropbox and remove its "tentacles"?

Hey rbmtexas and dockap. Just to make sure we're on the same page; did you follow all the steps outlined here to disable computer backup, before taking any other actions on your Dropbox app?
Let me know, and we can take a closer look.

nothing is being backed up now. I want to return control of my computer to me I don't know how else to put it. Going into the "backup and sync" when clicking on the dropbox in menu tab does not seem to do much, have to go through preferences to backup. Again, I would like to remove its actions on my computer, if I keep the software at all I think I'd rather manually drop files into it.

I totally understand.
To guide you further, I'd like you to send me a screenshot of what you see on this page.
Give me a nudge when you're ready.

funny that you want a screenshot as for weeks I've been unable to save screenshots until yesterday when I realized dropbox was the link to saving them and was not actually doing that. Changed the screenshot setting back to my computer and ta-da! Another reason I want it off. This screen shot has several portable drives listed and they are either deleted or apparently in pause (didn't want to chance it when dropbox wanted to know if it should delete the files from that drive. Already not backing up mac I guess as it's off the list.
