Sync icons missing in the Dropbox folder in Finder
I recently had a new work desktop (Mac) deployed. While all my downloaded Dropbox files were successfully transferred, there are now no sync icons next to Dropbox files in Finder. I have never had this issue before. The files are showing up as synced in the taskbar and online and across devices, but there are no green check icons in Finder.
Published solutions to this problem (uninstall / reinstall Dropbox; restart computer; force-quit Finder; check that OneDrive or other overlay programs are not running) have not worked for me. Help?? Programs running are Google Chrome and Microsoft Word. MacOS Monterey 12.3.1 / Dropbox v147.4.4800. I have the Basic plan.
Hi weiskott, can you also try the following?
Click on the Apple logo located at the top-left of the screen.
Click on System Preferences.
Click on Extensions.
Click on Finder Extensions.
Only leave Dropbox Finder Integration ticked.
Once this is completed suggest to close the window.
Click one more time on the Apple logo at the top-left of the screen.
Click on Force Quit.
Look for Finder on the list.
Click on Finder then Relaunch.

Hi JoeZL, thanks for posting here!
You mentioned that this happens with files downloaded into Dropbox folders.
Would you mind clarifying if this issue happens with files you downloaded from your account online, or if you use our desktop app?
Does it happen with all of your files, or specific file types?
Keep in mind that in the screenshot you attached, the error is coming from Word, not from Dropbox.
Keep me posted, and we'll take it from there!

Hi Megan
I am mainly downloading file attachments from my email client. I try to download them straight to my dropbox folders on my computer and they fail to appear. When I download them onto a non-dropbox folder they're fine. Then when I transfer them to dropbox folders from there, they are fine too. But downloading them directly to dropbox without this tedious interim step simply doesn't seem to work.

Hey JoeZL, sorry to jump in here as well.
So, just to clarify, you're using the Dropbox desktop app, right?
If you close the app and try to replicate this, do the files appear fine in the Dropbox folders?

Hi Hannah. The Dropbox app is installed on my computer so I'm assuming that's what's being used. Of course when I go to retrieve files, I go through the Finder or try to access the files I wish to open through whatever application I'm using. That's when they don't appear.
I have tried to close the dropbox app and restart it. To no avail.

Hey JoeZL - sorry to jump in here, but could you send us a screenshot of the Dropbox desktop app's exact status and version as shown in your menu bar?
Also, are you able to see the files when you navigate your account from a web browser?
Any additional information is more than welcome!

Hi Walter. Not quite sure what screenshot you wanted but I'm attaching one.
Yes, files are perfectly visible when I access my dropbox online using a browser

JoeZL, sorry to jump in.
Can you also open your Finder > Dropbox folder, and send me a screenshot of an example file that you’re having this issue with? I’d like to make sure that your files are being synced locally, and not online-only.
