Hi, please check your browser settings or othere aplication which you are using for downloading and check what is the destination for saving files. If you'll find that downloading files are saving on Dropbox or any other cloud services you can simple change it. It's the case of 3rd party settings not the cloud settings directly.

Hi kyliem5, thanks for messaging the Community!

I'm sorry to hear about this. Are you instead referring to Dropbox, and not Onedrive, which is another cloud provider? If you are referring to Dropbox, then it sounds like you enabled the automatic computer backup feature in the Dropbox desktop application. Could you first try disabling the computer backup from Dropbox using the steps in the above article to see if this helps?

Afterwards, you can move the folders and files back to their previous locations, which will also delete them from the Dropbox account online.

Let me know how it goes!

This just started happening on my Mac. My downloads folder just started uploading to dropbox and I checked back up settings and I haven't started anything there. I'd really like to not have this happen. Please help.

Hey JimHesterman, sorry to hear about this.

Did you enabled the Dropbox Backup feature by accident perhaps?

Could you send us a screenshot of what's shown in the app's preferences under the Backups tab and one of the app's status and version as shown in your menu bar?

Also, do you see any filers or folders on your backups page on the website?

I didn't set up automatic computer backup so there isn't anything to turn off.

I'd like to add that I have clients I deliver to whether a finished product or an iteration and now... I have to wait for it to upload or sync whatever the heck it's doing somewhere else. It's a huge inconvenience.

I'm uploading 1 file but it says it's syncing 22. I deleted everything from downloads and still shows it's syncing 22 files. What files?

Hey JimHesterman, do you see any files in your Dropbox folder with a circular progress indicator next to them?

This should give you an idea of what's currently syncing.

  • If you are not currently using Backups, but still see your browser downloads going to your Dropbox PC Backup folder, it is possible the browser's settings need to be updated.

Though, you might want to click on that "My Mac (Jim's MacBook)" that you shared in the Backup screenshot. That could possibly be the Backup that is linked to your Downloads.

On Chrome, you can get to the settings by pasting this into the browser: chrome://settings

Scroll down to the Advanced drop-down, then Scroll down and find the "Downloads" section.

Here, you will see the location of your downloads and can change it if it is directed to the Dropbox folder.
