I'm missing information from a file and it's not in the version history - can I get it back?

Hi,

Please can someone help?

I'm missing 4 months of information in one of my excel files.

Information from June 2025 to 6 October 2025 …… I need to restore all the information up until the 6 October 2025.

I've looked at all the version history files and they all the same with missing information for 4 months .... Is there any other way to find this information ... It's extremely valuable.

See attached ..... They all have the same information but we add to this file daily .... I don't know what has happened and how to get the information back ?

Thanks

Hey deanv, hope you don’t mind if I hop in here.

I found in our system that you’ve also contacted our support team about this and they're already looking into your case.

Since they have account visibility on their end, I suggest continuing with them directly via email; they’ll be able to further assist and let you know what else can be done. I’ve also left them an internal note for you, so that they know you’ve reached out to us on the forum.

Hi Hannah, we normally edit it through the local dropbox folder .... But its never an offline folder, all our folders stay online. And we do the same with all our other excel files. It's so weird this file has done this and it's our most important file.

Ive tried everything ..... Excel version history, dropbox online version history. Searching all devices and conflicting files ? I can find anything

Were you ever able to access and edit the missing info through the Dropbox website (Excel for the web)?

Or have you only been editing the file through your local Dropbox folder?

    Hi Hannah,

    Thanks for the message.

But we’ve never ever had this before …. We edit the file all the time and even restored the file before. we have lots of files that are identical and are saved fine, it's just this file?

Are you saying that the file has not been saved for the past 4 months, how is that possible ?

Hi there, deanv, thanks for reaching out to us.

I'm afraid that if the versions of the file you're looking for, are not in the file's version history, then there's no way to find them through Dropbox.

It basically means that these edits were never saved and synced, so they wouldn't be available.

How have you been editing the file? Locally, through your Dropbox folder?

If so, I'd suggest checking Excel's version history as well.

Let me know how it goes.
