Cancelling an upload

By mistake my Dropbox started to upload my whole desktop, instead of the folder I thought (and still think) that I marked. Now I can't find a way to cancel the upload, and it says it will take several hours. Is there anything I can do to cancel the upload immediately? I have a Mac, by the way ...

  • Hey there olofedsinger  - how are you today?

If I understood correctly, you're uploading files through our website (not using the desktop app) and you mistakenly uploaded more files/folders than you meant to.

In that case, all you need to do is close your web browser to cancel the upload completely. If any files were uploaded before doing this, you should be able to delete them as needed.

Let me know if I'm missing anything here please.

Thank you – that was an easy solution! :) I tried to close down the internet, but that didn't help ... Now the reason why I tried to make the upload was that I couldn't just drop the files from my desktop into the file in Dropbox. Do you have any idea as to why this doesn't work for me?

This is very strange. I have now tried Safari, Firefox and Chrome incognito, and it's everywhere the same: Nothing happens when I drop the files where it says I should drop them, and when I try to use the function Upload files, I get my whole desktop although I only mark the file I want ... Unfortunately, I don't get any messages about the problem.

From what I can understand I follow these steps. I'm using dropbox.com. And I cannot add my screen shot here either. :)

I'm sorry this persists olofedsinger  - I've gone ahead and sent you a brief message to your Dropbox associated email address so we can have a further look into this with all of my tools at my disposal.

Take a look at your inbox (ticket with ID:9194507 ) and we'll take it from there.

    Hello,

I need some help, please. I got stuck while uploading huge files. Using desktop app. I ned to cancel the upload as the upload speed in incredibly poor here. I may have committed the mistake of erasing the files in question from the dropbox queue (to no effect). I read one should rather click and drag them out of the dropbox window but there are no files anymore. Still, the uppload continues. Any solution, please?

    Best, Radim

Hey RadimP; thanks for joining our discussion and sorry for the late response.

If you're still having issues with this, could you please send me a screenshot of the app's exact status as shown within your system tray/menu bar and let me know if you can find any files within your computer's Dropbox folder?

Let me know and we'll take it from there, Radim.
