Desktop app is stuck at indexing for days
Hello, I have Dropbox on my iMac running 12.6.3 Monterey. Dropbox has been stuck on indexing for over a week. I have tried the troubleshooting advice but haven't had success. Any ideas?
Thank you!
Thanks for the screenshot, selkie19.
Can you also check the article that Walter linked in his previous reply, on how to fix syncing issues, to see if any of the suggestions there are helpful?

How many files do you have on your account? Have you recently upgraded to a newer version of the Dropbox desktop application?

Hi Jay I have around 166.000 files on Dropbox (1,9 TB) and 320 GB are stored locally.
Yes last week I got an email from Dropbox where I was told to update to the new version with a deep integration with macOS to ensure the best Dropbox experience 🙂

I had the same frustrating issue with being "stuck in indexing" a few weeks ago. None of the usual steps to fix this issue was working. It brought my entire company to a halt. I had the beta version installed then, which had moved my Dropbox folder to the new ~/Library/CloudStorage location. (I am on macOS Ventura, by the way.)
So I "left" the beta and reinstalled the previous stable version with the Dropbox folder in my old user account location.
Everything's running and syncing smoothly again—no more "stuck in indexing" issues.
In the meantime, I have been getting emails from Dropbox to move to the latest version with deep macOS integration.
I will not update to that deep-integration version until all of these issues are resolved. The fact that users are still having problems tells me we're still nowhere near a solid new version of Dropbox. As a business user, I cannot afford another Dropbox-induced company shut down.

Hi THX1965 Thank you for sharing your experience! Like you, my business has been facing difficulties since the update, and I've been searching for an alternative workflow to keep things running.
Your suggestion to revert to the previous version of Dropbox sounds promising. I'm not entirely certain how to perform the downgrade.
Once again, I appreciate your valuable input

Hey korall, does this issue persist for you?
If so, can you try following these steps, to see if they help?

Hi
My dropbox is stuck at indexing.
I have tryed to fix both hardlinks and permissions as descriped here
This only resulted in the indexing went from 93 to 1665 files. It's now over an hour ago and the numbers still haven't dropped, so I don't think it's doing anything.
I the joblist it's using power but not much else
I really need to get those 6 files uploaded.
Please explain what to do...
regards Anja

Hi ar_reeft, thanks for posting here today!
How long is the app stuck "indexing" content? It might sound trivial, but have you tried signing out of the app, then back in?
Keep me posted!

Hi Megan
I'm not sure how long it's have been stuck - I made I change yesterday (the 6 files to be uploaded) which I noticed didn't apply to my other PC.
But if it had started yesterday or earliere I don't know.
Is there a way to see it?
Yes, I have signed out and in ( in fact I have tried to close dropbox in the tasksmanager )
