Dropbox taking up "other files" Disk Space on MacOS
Hey,
I have an issue with the Dropbox Smart Synch function on my MacBook Pro M1 2020.
Until recently everything worked just fine, I also have the "Smart-Synch-Update for Mac" Box checked in the settings.
But now, when I synch a file or folder to "online only" it will do that and show, that the file has 0 Byte. But simultaneously my "other files" space in the MacOs Disk Space Tool increases so that I have about 250GB of "other files" on my system, that are no where to be found. Even if I search everything on my Mac there is no folder that is so big.
Can anyone help me?

Hey Sheqo, sorry to hear you're having issues with Smart Sync.
If your desktop app is showing 'up to date' in your menu bar, could you try clearing your cache folder?
Let me know if that helps! - Sheqo5 years agoHelpful | Level 5
Hey Walter,
thanks for the reply!
Everything is up to date and I already cleared the cache folder, but that didnt solve my problem unfortunatly.

Could you send me a screenshot of the files and folders in your Dropbox folder Sheqo?
I would like to check their syncing icons and see if they're set to be 'online only' indeed. - Sheqo5 years agoHelpful | Level 5
Hey Walter
Here is a Screenshot of my "largest" Folder in my Dropbox:
As u can see, most of the folders are synched for "online only" with some exceptions for files I need frequently.
Here is another Screenshot of my files, where u can see, that the numbers doesnt add up. It says that there are 270GB in my user folder wich are nowhere to be found.

Thanks for the screenshots Sheqo - much appreciated!
If the issue persists after rebooting your computer, may I reach out via email to have a further look internally?

Hey Walter,
sure, u can contact me via Mail.
Do I have to write my mail adress here or do u have it?

Recently, this exact same thing happened to me, and I can’t for the life of me figure out how to fix it. So if you found a solution to the problem, I would be grateful if you could share it here. Best regards, Ben.

Hi ben476, welcome to our Community!
Can you share with me the app version that you have installed to the device? You can find that by hovering your mouse over the little Dropbox icon, next to your WiFi icon.
Also, what do you see on your end? Any screenshots are welcome, so we can have a visual on this.
Thanks!
