Not able to add shared folder to my Dropbox
Hi - they didn't have
File sharing on here...so i just picked this one. I am having trouble trying to download a shared file from email to go onto my dropbox account on my MAC...and unless I pay $20 no one will just get on a call with me (and I work in film and have not worked in several months)....so I'm hoping someone from The Community can help me
Well - I kind of figured it out....I gave them my old account email address, and it seemed to work....but I had specifically gotten a different account with my new email address....so I still don't know why it's doing that.
Thank you for your help!

You'll need to explain the issue you're having, the steps taken, error message you're receiving, etc., before we'll know how to assist you.

A company I am working on a project with - emailed me a Shared dropbox file. I used to be able to click on it and it would automatically download into my Dropbox on my computer....but it doesn't.
I can click on the shared dropbox in the folder they sent in the email....but I can only view the files and I can't work on them (one time I hit upload and it started uploading all of MY files (including my personal taxes) to the folder the company sent me (I hope to gawd they didn't steal my identity!)....so I don't want to hit THAT button!
I need this file for work tomorrow. I also need this file to be able to be available to everyone that's shared, in real time as we are constantly making changes.
I also tried another thing and tried to do a Team Folder....and something, IDK what, is downloading on my desktop DB....I can't see what's downloading.
I also quit it and reopened DB (it didn't ask for my password), but it still didn't share.
Should I download the shared email file onto my desktop and then add that to my DB desktop? I just wasn't sure if it would be "shared" to make changes in real time...i.e. if I would "break" the sharing if I did that.
I hope this is enough information....I've included screenshots:
Here is what was sent to me in my email....and I clicked on the Add To Dropbox..

But as you can see....it didn't go into my dropbox on my Mac:

And this is what it looks like when I click on it in my email....but I can't edit/change the files that I need to :

Sorry - here is the image of the email that was sent to me (I had to edit the name/email....and this is SO not intuitive!):

Hey Stephermryan, just wanted to clarify a couple of things.
What happened after you clicked on the "add to Dropbox" button in the email?
Did the folder get added to your Dropbox online, but didn't sync to your computer's Dropbox folder?
Do you see the folder in your Shared page and in your All files page?

Thanks for responding....this is what I see when I go online and it did NOT sync to my computer's DB folder:
This is a photo of my DB folder on my computer:
Since I need to access this file TODAY....should I just try to download the file from the email onto my desktop and then drag it into my DB folder on my computer's DB folder? Will it still sync w/everyone?

Thanks for the update, Stephermryan!
Since the folder is already added to your account (just not synced to your Dropbox folder), I wouldn't suggest downloading it from the web and dragging it to your Dropbox folder; it might create a conflict.
Also, since the folder is added to your account on dropbox.com, it means it's added for the other members as well; they should be able to access it both on dropbox.com and locally.
There's an apparent syncing issue with the application on your computer, and the folder is not syncing for you for some reason, so let's see why that is.
If you hover over your Dropbox icon, what's the version and sync status of the app?
Can you close the Dropbox app and then relaunch it from your applications folder to see if that helps?

HI - I tried opening from my applications folder and still not loading from the email.
188.4.6302 is the version and has up to date.
Right now I downloaded to my desktop and put in my folder...because I HAVE to get work done today. I work in film production and everything is needed yesterday - DB is really holding me up.

Hey Stephermryan. If the folder still hasn’t synced to your Dropbox app, I’d suggest checking your selective sync settings next. Does the folder show as unselected in the list of folders there?
If yes, please don't select it yet, as this may cause the conflict Hannah mentioned above.
If not, please go to www.dropbox.com again, open the folder, and check the files/folders within to make sure their names don’t include these characters.

Hi Nancy,
It is not syncing to my desktop app. It doesn't contain any special characters and neither do the files w/in. Whatever I'm doing, it is NOT syncing to my desktop app. I've sent 2 emails to the support email and I still have not heard back.
I am trying to work, but my producer and I can not share files so it's not working. I needed to be adding things somewhere, so I guess I will just remove the folder from DB and work on my desk and email her....but I also need to share files w/several crew members on my team.
If there is ANYONE that can help me, please...help.
I just don't know what to do...it's not working and I'm not getting answers from support.

I see what you mean. Since you've already messaged our support team, you should've received a ticket number attached to your request.
Can you please send it to me, so that I can check it?
