How to free up space in your Dropbox account

I've unshared many folders, permanently deleted lots of files but dropbox still reports that it is full.  How can I free up space?  I've already followed dropbox instructions with no results

  • Permanently deleting files isn't needed to clear space. Simply deleting them is enough. Files in the Deleted Files section do not count against your storage quota.

If Dropbox is saying your account is full, then it's still full. You need to remove enough files to bring your account back below your quota before that message will go away. It could be that you're still a member of a large share that just keeps filling your account as you make more room.

You can verify your storage usage on your Account page. It will show you a breakdown of what's using your storage (regular files, shared files, etc.), which hat may help you identify files that you can remove to free up some more space.

Hi there, Howard Jennings, thanks for reaching out to us.

Is it possible that you have any shared folders or backups that are taking up your space?

What do you see in your plan tab regarding your usage?

I absolutely agree with you. Every day I get the "Delete files" for more storage email. They are deleted.

If you're getting the email, then your storage is still full or close to being full. Check your Plan page and it will show you where your space is being used.

This has been sorted. Many thanks for all your replies. I'm sure there's a way to say, Case Closed. But maybe this is all I need to do. Hmmmm ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Checked your Backups page yet? When does it show for your actual usage on your Plan page? Provide a screenshot if you can. It should look like this:

Hey melissam4, you can use the steps here, to see the size of your files and calculate the size of your folders, to see which ones are taking up your space.

    I hope this helps!

Thank you for the Tip, but with the amount that i already delted from all my folders, i should have way more storage space again, but the numbers don't change unfortunately and i can't really delete any more....

Hmm, what did you find after you checked the size of your files, Melissa?

Do you see a discrepancy with your usage here?
