Was it the full Dropbox application, downloaded from the Dropbox site, or was it the Dropbox for S Mode app from the Microsoft store? It needs to be the full application from the Dropbox website. The app from any of the stores (Microsoft, Apple, Google, etc.) is a mobile app and doesn't qualify for referrals.

It was the full dropbox application, downloaded from the dropbox site (while logged in to his account)
