Some files were shared with me by another user and now I'm over-quota. What is happening?
I am very confused.
I've had a personal Dropbox for quite some time that I really never used. I was granted access to someone else's box not long ago so that I could read and add files to their box. Any of the files I have added have appeared in that person's box. Soon thereafter, I have been getting messages about being "over my limit," that my personal Dropbox has "stopped syncing," and that files may be "deleted."
I cannot for the life of me figure out what's going on because I have not added anything to my personal account.
Does this mean the files in the other person's box will be deleted because I am among those it was shared with, or the one who added some? That is my main concern. If there are files in my personal box that I cannot see or don't know about, I honestly am not worried. But I do not want to negatively affect others because of this situation.

I cannot for the life of me figure out what's going on because I have not added anything to my personal account.
There upgraded account doesnt benefit you. If you need access to that data in your account you need enough space in your account to access it.

Anything in your Dropbox may be deleted if you are over quota - and anything that happens to those files will replicate to all in the share.
Best thing to do is leave the share via www.dropbox.com/share and ask for read only links instead as they dont use quota BUT it does mean you cannot edit the real time files.

I take this to mean that files I did not create will be deleted in the actual owners box because I do not have enough room in my own? If so, that would be disastrous.
I have been looking to do as you recommended. I am in www.dropbox/share and see nothing that allows me to leave the share. Thanks again for your time, I clearly have no idea what I am doing.

You may try to follow these steps on how to leave a shared folder :
Another option would also be to consider upgrading your plan to any of our paid plans, or you can suggest to the sender of your files to consider getting a team plan that allows the team owner to take ownership of the cost of the subscription, but allows you a share of the team space so you are always abreast of the updates or changes being made on the shared folder and do not have to worry about getting short of space anymore.
