The mobile app says I'm out of storage but my computer shows 4.6 GB available

Dropbox Plan
Basic
Device
iPhone 16
Operating System/Browser (if using the web)
iOS26
Dropbox App Version (if using the app)
454.2.2

Question or Issue
I received notification about a month or so ago that I was exceeding my storage limit of 9GB. I have deleted folders and files, removed shared folders, and reduced my storage to 4.3 GB. My app still says I am over my limit and I am unable to scan/upload new files. Is the scanning feature only available if I am under the 2GB basic plan limit? Is this a recent change? I was able to scan/upload just fine when I was using 8GB+ for years. I've earned 7GB of extra space, and am using less than half of my full storage limit with the bonus space after the deletion/folder removals. I prefer the dropbox scanner to google drive, but may have to switch if this continues to be a problem as I cannot afford the plus plan (and clearly don't NEED 2TB of storage - not even close!). Thank you!

Scanning is basically an upload, so if Dropbox still thinks the account is over quota, the scanner gets blocked too. I’d double-check your quota from dropbox.com (Settings/Plan + the Referrals/Earned space page), because some “bonus” space promos can expire and then you’re effectively back at the 2GB Basic limit even if you didn’t change anything.

Also check Backups and Deleted files on the web—both can count toward your quota even when your desktop Dropbox folder looks small, same with shared folders you haven’t fully left. If the numbers look right on the web, sign out/in on iOS (or reinstall) to force a refresh. Are you 100% sure the iPhone and computer are logged into the same Dropbox email?

Thanks for joining the Dropbox Community, accessrobyn.

Let's see what we can find out about this!

Would you mind sending me a screenshot of your usage as shown in the mobile app? Just make sure to edit out any personal info.

Also, what does this page in your account settings show? Can you send me a screenshot of that as well?

    Thanks in advance!
