Dropbox freezes and crashes when I navigate in my Dropbox folder within File explorer.

Hello,

I am having trouble with dropbox working through my Windows file explorer.  For some reason, within the last week every time I try to navigate to one of my dropbox files the file explorer crashes and I have to force close the program.  I can open files from the specific application.  For instance, if I open Word and then open a file from word it will open, but if I try to open the same file from the windows file explorer it freezes.  I have tried to uninstall and reinstall.  Any other suggestions/solutions?

    Hi,

I can confirm this still happens on Windows 11, version 24H2.

    Dropbox version: v214.4.5217

It happened before the 24H2 update of Windows 11 as well.

When can we expect a fix for this?

Hi. I have noticed that this CONSISTENTLY happens when I have the iCloud app from the Microsoft Store installed. It doesn't matter if the iCloud app is running or not. As long as it is installed, this issue persists. I'm not sure why this is happening only with Dropbox. Google Drive works fine with no issues, even with the iCloud app installed.

Hi there Mircea-Pual - sorry to hear you're having issues with this.

Did you try any of the troubleshooting outlined in this discussion so far?

As for you mo34, could you clarify your computer's exact OS version and the version of the Dropbox app you're running?

Any additional information is more than welcome!

Hi.  I don't think I've seen anyone else mention this so here goes:  I find that if I manually enable UAC virtualization for both Dropbox.exe and Explorer.exe (the main ones taking up the most memory) from within Task Manager, the problem goes away.

I find that there are a few more "gotcha" apps in my collection that require the same treatment with UAC to completely resolve Explorer.exe hanging, but Dropbox is definitely one of them.

For completeness's sake, I'll note that the way Explorer hangs for me is a bit different from the original description:  it doesn't really seem to matter what I'm doing at the time, the hanging seems to happen randomly.  When the hangup occurs it's the whole bottom navigation bar of windows that freezes.
