Dropbox syncing thousands of files randomly.
Hello,
Appreciate the support. All of a sudden my dropbox has thousands of files to sync around 5.2tb. I'm unsure why this has happened, I keep files online to save space. This is now showing and is making my experience on Dropbox very slow to do anything. Please see a reference image below.
Any advice would be very appreciative.
Thanks,
Tim

Hey tjmiz, I hope you're doing well!
I'd like to ask for some additional info such as: when did this start happening?
Also, would you be able to clarify the device's OS, and the Dropbox version you're using on your end?
Lastly, do you see any progress in the number of files that the app is syncing?
Let me know more, and we'll take it from there!

Hi Megan,
Thanks for the help. Sure, here are the answers:
- Started around a week ago.
- The devices OS is 14.0
- Dropbox version is: 198.4.7615
There is no progress with the syncing at all.
Thanks

Hey tjmiz, thanks for the info!
If you add a really small file to your Dropbox app now, and check the website after a bit, can you see it there?
Try to also make sure that all other apps are closed and that there's no antivirus, firewall, VPN etc. running, and then sign-out and of the Dropbox app and sign-in again.

Hi Megan,
I've done that and it didn't work.
I have now signed out and resigned in, now only saying syncing 28,000 files. Unfortunately, I've lost all my folders now too.

Hey tjmiz, sorry to jump in here.
I understand you're on a macOS computer, right?
Did you recently get any notification about an update of the Dropbox app to the version for File Provider?
Where is your Dropbox folder currently located?
- tjmiz2 years agoExplorer | Level 3
Hi Hannah,
Yes MacOS.
I don't think I got that notification, I'm unsure now.
Dropbox folder is a company folder and it's on my drive. But like I said, it is now empty. Yet on the website version it's all there.

Hey tjmiz - sorry to jump in here, but could you send us a screenshot of the app's exact status as shown in your menu bar at the moment?
If it's still stuck at the exact same number of files, could you try fixing your hardlinks and permissions and let us know how it goes?

Hi Walter. Please see the screenshot on what it says. I've re-downloaded the app and it has a new number but has 5.5tb to be uploaded still.
I've also done hardline and permission reset. Still not achieved anything. I have checked on my other Mac laptop instead of Mac Studio and this is correct and showing the right things. It's just the Mac Studio I am having issues.
Thanks for your help.

Thanks for the screenshot and the additional information, Tim.
Could you try adjusting your bandwidth settings and/or rebooting your computer and internet router and let us know how it goes?
if it's still stuck, we might need to investigate internally.

Thanks Walter, I've just tried this and still there is the same issue. Appreciate the extra help after this.
