Dropbox update pop-up keeps re-appearing on Windows 11
Help I'm losing my mind I now have 7 pop-ups asking me to install the latest update to Dropbox last month this happened I went to Dropbox/ download reinstalled the entire thing after I uninstalled it and while that solved the issue temporarily it's back again after a new update was released what it looks like is almost a virus but it's not I'll show you the installer screens and they appear to be issued by Dropbox I don't think you can fake that but I'm not 100% sure I have scanned for viruses just as an FYI but since there's no way to reach out to actual Dropbox and tell them that we're experiencing this bug on Windows PC specifically windows 11 its is requesting UAC I say yes ad it will popup again
Hi!
This morning any pop-up appears! I think that now the problem is solved!
Thank you very much for your support!
Have a nice day,
Laura

Might be related, but for a while now, whenever I start dropbox (v216.4.4420 desktop add, windows 11), I get two (2) db update popups. I accept both and everything is okay.
Still, it happens every time I start the app. I've been running the app on this computer since 2022, and it only started a week ago, maybe two. Not sure, since I only use DB sporadically. - Bia2310 months agoNew member | Level 1
Hello Jay , yes Dropbox desktop was installed with admin privileges. I have now installed the latest version v218.4.4348 and this issue seems to have been fixed. Happy to see that on latest version I can coauthor files!

Hey Laura Galassi, let's jump right into this!
As a first step, can you let me know the Dropbox version that you're using on the device? When did you first notice this behavior?
Also, have you tried any of the troubleshooting steps mentioned in this thread?
Keep me posted, and we'll take it from there!

Hi!
The Dropbox version is 219.4.4463, so the version is recently (updated on my pc on 07/03/2025), but the pop-up still appears every day a lot of times, a lot of pop-up.
The first behavior is in october 2024 and so I follow this forum in order to find a solution.
In october 2024 I have updated my PC to windows 11, but I am not sure that is the reason.
Thank you in advance.
Best Regards,
Laura

Hey Laura Galassi, thanks for the heads up!
As a first step, you need to make sure that you've installed the app with admin privileges.
Another thing that I also noticed is that the version you're using at the moment is old. You need to use this link, or this one to update to a newer version.
I'd love to know how the app behaves after these changes.

Hi,
I have installed the version 223.4.4909 from your link as administrator.
Now dropbox is updating files.
I will monitoring the behaviour of the app and return to you for update.
I really hope that now the problem about pop-up is solved.
Thank you very much.
