How does one remove the Dropbox link from the Navigation Pane om Windows 10?
I don't notice it on Win8.1, but I have already hacked out a bunch of stuff in the registry on Win8.1. I have the Dropbox folder conveniently located in the root of a second hard drive, I don't need the link cluttering up the Navigation Pane, or the Desktop for that matter.

Okay, I think I figured out how to do it. There's only one key value that you have to change, but you also have to change its permissions so that Dropbox won't change it back.
First you have to go to:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{E31EA727-12ED-4702-820C-4B6445F28E1A}
And set the System.IsPinnedToNamespaceTree value to 0.
This will remove it from the File Explorer's navigation pane.
Afterwards, you'll need to prevent Dropbox from changing the value back.
To do this, right click the {E31EA727-12ED-4702-820C-4B6445F28E1A} key and then click Permissions. Click Advanced, and then click Add. In the dialog box that appears, type Everyone, and then click OK. Change the type to Deny, and make it apply to This key only. Click Show advanced permissions, and check the Set Value box.
Afterwards, click OK and Dropbox should no longer be able to modify that value. Hopefully Dropbox or Microsoft will make this kind of thing easier someday.

I have uninstalled Dropbox from my computer, Windows 10 but the icon still appears in windows explorer navigation pane. Tried Ccleaner and was unable to get rid of it. Does anyone has a simple solution as I am not a tech person. Thanks

sorry irene, we haven't discovered any simple solution. that's why we keep complaining about it. here are instructions that will probably work for you. but since you said you uninstalled dropbox, I'm not sure why the dropbox button hasn't disappeared from your explorer pane yet. try rebooting your computer to see if that fixes it, before you bother doing these other instructions. here we go.
open the start menu and search for "regedit", it should suggest "run command", with an icon of a blue block made of smaller blue blocks. click on that. be careful in this program, because if you start randomly deleting stuff in here, you can very easily crash your computer in a lot of different ways.
on the left pane of regedit, start going through the folders and get to "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{E31EA727-12ED-4702-820C-4B6445F28E1A}"
on the right pane, you should now see some items. double-click on "System.IsPinnedToNamespaceTree", and it should open up a new little window. change "Value data" to the number 0, and click ok.
you can now close regedit and your dropbox button should be gone, unless you didn't actually uninstall dropbox. if dropbox is installed, it will undo everything you just did every time you reboot your computer. hope this helped :)

Thanks so much Nik! Your solution works perfect and the Dropbox icon didn't appear after I rebooted my computer!

I can't believe Dropbox still hasn't created an option to remove the list from the navigation pane within the program. [Profanity removed by moderator] Excuse my language. I mean come on Dropbox! Not one of your engineers or management have brought this up?

Oh look, yet another annoying interface issue that Dropbox refuses to acknowledge or fix. Color me shocked.

Back to Windows 7, where I actually control my computer and not the other way around. Also I've installed Dropbox again, but I have minimal usage since I feel it's a bad software/service.
The inability to customize the software, infuriates me, but this is because 90% of the people are dumb with computers and just want one-click everything, which makes software developers hard-code settings, hide customization options and over-simplify options.
1. Why the %$&! doesn't dropbox ask you if you want a shortcut in navigation pane?
2. Why on earth we still have to put our folders inside the dropbox and no support for folder Junctions. You can 'hook' the software to several folders and monitor them for file changes, I really can't understand why any of the cloud storage providers won't allow this.
3. Really bad support/interaction with the public... I would think that the issue presented on this thread is big enough for them to at least address it officially: a moderator pass by and just say anything... ANYTHING would be nice.
4. They offer free space to college students for limited time, just to get you hooked to their services and then after a year you lose your "free" 25gb and you either delete files or start paying them... again, nasty marketing strategy.
As I've said, I used to like dropbox, in the beginning they were innovative and they got paid for that... now-a-days it seems like it's just another money driven company. You have plenty of free alternatives, most offer even more space than dropbox and the service is pretty much the same.Cheers

rich R, I hope you realize your first comment was useless because you misunderstood the problem, and the second one is just removing one of many complaining comments in this thread because it had 1 swear word.
edit: I removed the last sentence because it was pretty rude and unnecessary. I'll say this instead. I understand you're probably busy on this forum, and that was most likely a pre-typed response and everything. but as a super user, you should be trying to set a good example. and I don't think you really have. not here anyway.

After disconnecting Dropbox, Dimpie B.'s solution worked - and was very simple! Thank you.
