My Dropbox app doesn't connect to the internet on Windows 11

I am having the issue that I have seen reported here many time. The DropBox app (in Windows 11) will not connect to the internet. I have had our IT director look to see if our firewall is blocking the app but he said that it is not. I have tried reinstalling and all the other solutions I have seen that have worked for others (proxy settings, etc.)

I’m sorry to hear about this, valerostudio

If you hover over the Dropbox icon in your system tray, can you see the app version of the Dropbox app?

Can you also clarify what other steps you’ve tried so far? I’ll be able to provide the next steps this way.

Finally, I’d like a screenshot of the syncing status you keep seeing.

    Keep me in the loop.

    Version 200.4.7134

I had the IT manager check the firewall settings, it was not blocking DropBox.

I saw some postings where solutions were to reinstall, change proxy settings, and running the command netsh winsock reset catalog. None of these worked for me.

When I restart my machine, DropBox says "no internet connection" when I click the icon in the tray, this log in screen just keeps spinning.

Hi valerostudio, can you try quitting the app, then quitting all other open apps and services, including security software, and then restarting the Dropbox app to see if this helps.

I quit everything I could quit without killing Windows, restarted the app and I get this

No other applications are having issues connecting to the internet, just Dropbox gives me this error.

It does sound like something is still preventing the Dropbox desktop application from accessing the internet.

I'd recommend checking again with the IT team to see if all these domains have been whitelisted.

I spoke with our IT Manager and he said...

"The thing is, I don’t block or allow Internet access based on URL.  I do block some URL’s on the email server, but this isn’t a prob w/email, and I don’t think any of these are on the block list anyway.  I do block based on geographic location, but I also tested using a guest wifi, and I don’t think they block anything, and Dropbox still wasn’t working on that connection.

Further, I started testing access to the list of URL’s, and a lot of them couldn’t resolve to an IP address—they’re not listed on any public DNS servers.  That’s true even if I use Verizon’s data service on my phone."

I only tested a few of the Dropbox domains but they are certainly listed in public DNS.
