'Can not upload the file' error when attaching from Dropbox to Gmail on Android
When I try to add an attachment from dropbox to a mail in gmail, I receive a message in gmail "can not upload the file". This error occurs only on one smartphone with android 12. If I do the same , w...

Hi Everybody,
I've spoken with our Engineering team about this, who have confirmed that the 'Attach from Dropbox' option no longer being available is the result of an update to the Android OS and Gmail app, specifically Storage Access Framework. This means that the option to Attach from Dropbox will no longer be available.
As others have stated, to attach files, you will need to select Attach File in Gmail, open the hamburger menu on the left, select Dropbox, then choose the files to be uploaded.

Ben

3 years agoSorry to jump in here, erlend w., but does this happen with any file? Regardless of the size or file type?
Have you uninstalled and reinstalled the Gmail app at all, to see if that helps?

This is happening to me too, when I use the smartphone and try to attach files from any folder in my dropbox when sending an email (gmail), the same message appears saying that it was not possible to attach the files. I tested both PDF and DOC files from "word" as well. However, using the notebook, I was able to send the same files. And my smartphone is attaching images saved on the device itself, which is why I realized that it was a connectivity problem between dropbox and the smartphone, perhaps due to the android version as the person reported above.

Hey everyone!
Can you all clarify what's the current OS of your mobile devices, as well as the app version of your Dropbox app there?
Have you also tried to attach Dropbox files to your Gmail via a computer as well, and the same issue occurs?
- Ecles3 years agoExplorer | Level 4Versão do dropbox: 336.2.2
Versão do android do smartphone: 13.
Como escrevi no comentário inicial, só ocorreu o problema no smartphone. Pelo computador consegui anexar os arquivos antes de enviar o email. - RMadruga3 years agoHelpful | Level 6
Hi Nancy!
It works perfectly on my laptop and even with the browser on my phone. It's some problem between Dropbox app and Gmail app but only one way.
If I enter the Dropbox app and share a file using Gmail, there is no problem. Basically I can not write or reply an e-mail and attach a file from Dropbox, but I can from my phone storage, google drive, Box drive, etc...

I am also having this issue. I can attach a file on a computer but not in the app. The Dropbox version is 340.2.4 and I have Android version 13.
- meupatdoes3 years agoExplorer | Level 3Having the same problem as everyone else.
My phone is a Google pixel 6 pro.
No issues on the desktop or laptop.
What is the fix for this?? - VickiBurbank3 years agoHelpful | Level 6From email on your phone click on attach/paperclip, click hamburg on top left, don't click Dropbox but instead plus sign to the right of icon, checkmark files you want to attach then checkmark at the top right. Easy once you get used to it
- meupatdoes3 years agoExplorer | Level 3I don't see the "plus sign to the right of icon" - are screenshots possible?
- VickiBurbank3 years agoHelpful | Level 6I'm unable to send you a screenshot through this forum. Happy to text or email you if you like?

Exactly! I can attach documents when I start from the Dropbox app, but when I start with the Gmail app on my Android they will not attach.

Unfortunately you can't attach files here or I would share the ones I have marked up illustrating the steps. But the key has been stated here several times. You start with the paper clip, But instead of choosing a folder from Dropbox you choose the hamburger at the top left, THEN choose Dropbox NOT by clicking on Dropbox but by clicking on the arrow or icon just to the right. This opens Dropbox and let you navigate and choose a file with checkboxes. It's stupid and cumbersome but a lot better than downloading the files to your phone and cluttering up your storage. And a lot better than starting from Dropbox and sharing it from there to your Gmail which you may already have started to compose. This whole change was so unnecessary and it was so intuitive before.
