'Can not upload the file' error when attaching from Dropbox to Gmail on Android
When I try to add an attachment from dropbox to a mail in gmail, I receive a message in gmail "can not upload the file". This error occurs only on one smartphone with android 12. If I do the same , with the same dropbox and google account, on an other android phone (android 11 )or an android tablet, there is no problem. Both phones have the same app version of gmail
Hi Everybody,
I've spoken with our Engineering team about this, who have confirmed that the 'Attach from Dropbox' option no longer being available is the result of an update to the Android OS and Gmail app, specifically Storage Access Framework. This means that the option to Attach from Dropbox will no longer be available.
As others have stated, to attach files, you will need to select Attach File in Gmail, open the hamburger menu on the left, select Dropbox, then choose the files to be uploaded.
Regards,
Ben

Are you able to export a file directly from the Dropbox app to an email by using these steps when you 'Send copy of file' to the email app?

Yes.
From Dropbox to Gmail it's not a problem.
The problem is the other way around.

When will there be a solution, what is the problem and why is it taking so long? I have a hard time understanding a company as large as Dropbox in the cloud business that they cant figure this out. I am beyond frustrated and thinking about a change. This impedes my ability to run my business. I dont think I should have to figure out work arounds which cost me time. VERY ANNOYED!
- Stevensimpson3 years agoHelpful | Level 7It sounds like you need new staff as it has been like this for months. If they can't fix something as small as this by now, I suggest they look for a new job

I have the same problem with a new Motorola RAZR+ with Android 13. Attaching Dropbox files has worked perfectly until today when it starts to attach the file and then says, "can't attach file." Tried attaching from other cloud-based storage and no problem.
- Kbroc3 years agoExplorer | Level 4Can we please get an update on this, it has been months and I pay close to 1k a year for this service and to not be able to upload attachments through the Gmail app us highly inconvenient. This needs to start working

Exactly! I can attach documents when I start from the Dropbox app, but when I start with the Gmail app on my Android they will not attach.
