“Your plan and billing information are managed externally"; I can't upgrade via Google Play.

I urgently need to upgrade my plan because I am out pf storage, but this "Your plan and billing information are managed externally" is the message I receive when I try to upgrade. I have found which of my google accounts my subscription is connected to in the Google play store, but there I am only able to unsubscribe or resubscribe from my existing plan. The button to "manage" my subscription there only gives me the option to change my payment method. I literally am willing to give you (Dropbox) more money in the form of upgrading so it's extremely infuriating to not be able to. I am considering switching to a different cloud storage host other than Dropbox if I cannot get this fixed before April 2nd (when my subscription supposedly renews). Please advise.

Hi Crystal Aurora, thanks for bringing this to our attention.

As this is related to sensitive billing info, I’d recommend getting in contact with our support team directly to look into this matter in more detail.

You can do this by opening an incognito/private browsing window, while not signed into any account, and accessing this link.

From there you should be able to contact support. Make sure to use an email to which you can receive and send emails from.

My subscription has now expired and I am still having the same problem. Trying to upgrade in Dropbox desktop web version brings up the notification "Your plan and billing information are managed externally". Going to the Google play store account where I was seeing my subscription, it now just shows that it is expired and it gives me the button to "remove" it.

To add to what Rich said - make sure that you are receiving emails from Dropbox AND reading them (i.e. they arent in junk/clutter etc.) because if they DO remove files its permanent

Yes, your files would be safe. If you end up over your storage quota, syncing would stop but your existing files would remain in your account. You would have to be over your quota for an extended period of time (with multiple warning emails) before Dropbox started to remove files.

The ability to upgrade to a different plan may not be possible if a higher plan isn't available through the app stores (Apple or Google). In such a case you would need to cancel your current subscription, wait for your account to downgrade back to Basic (on April 2nd by the sounds of it) and then upgrade again via the Dropbox website rather than through a mobile store.
