Getting a Dropbox account logon security code takes hours.

I'm sorry if "Settings and Preferences" is not the appropriate category for this post but I couldn't find anything that seemed more appropriate:  I have another account with Dropbox that I've been trying unsuccessfully to log onto for the last few days.  After entering my user ID and password it tells me that it has sent a one-time security code to my email address.  It indeed does send it, but according to that email's MIME header it wasn't sent until several hours after my logon attempt.  By that time, of course, the logon attempt has timed out and I must start the entire futile procedure over.

I've asked the Dropbox chatbot about this but it is pretty worthless.  It told me to contact support.  However, I can't contact support without logging on first, which I can't do because of the excessive security code delay.  This is a real catch 22.  I've used the same email address and email provider for many years and have never had this type of problem with any other company sending verification codes to my email address.  Apparently Dropbox only has my email address for that account because it doesn't offer an alternative way of sending the security code, such as via a text or a phone call.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Visit the Support page while you're NOT signed in to a Dropbox account, including these forums, and you'll see an option for sign in issues. It's best to use an Incognito or Private browsing session to make sure you're not signed in.

I just now saw your reply and tried to log in again just to get you a fresh hours-delayed security code file.  This time, however, the security code email came back almost immediately and allowed me to finish logging in.  I guess Dropbox or whatever servers they're using to send or receive emails have been flakey for the last several days and finally got fixed.  Regardless, I can send you the mime header from one of the extremely delayed security code emails I got if you wish, but I need to know what to remove from it that could present a security risk for me.

Hi MinorDeity, the emails are sent out immediately from the Dropbox servers if a request is made.

If there was a delay, it could be related to your email provider, so we'd recommend contacting them first regarding the delay in delivery.

Thanks for the reply.  The mime header in the response email from Dropbox indicated that it was sent it several hours after the security code was requested on the Dropbox website, then it took less than 60 seconds for it to get to me once Dropbox sent it.  I'm not sure what else I can check 😞

Hi MinorDeity, no need for the screenshot, since your email might be visible, and that wouldn't be very secure.
