Stuck on Indexing and Cannot access any files on mac
Hi,
I am having an issue where dropbox is stuck on indexing. I recently upgraded to the new version (mac) and I have had all sorts or problems since. I added my music library and it started syncing then seemed to stop. I left if for a couple days but nothing changed. I restarted my computer and it looked like it was syncing again (but no all files are in my dropbox) then it went to indexing. It looks like its indexing and gives a file count for a while then changes to "indexing..." with no file count and just sits there. In the mean time nothing I am putting in my dropbox folder shows up in my actual drop box so I cannot create links. I am a music composer and clients are waiting or material so I am hoping to get this resolved ASAP. I have read through the forums and see others have this issue but no one seems to have found a solution. I have tried pausing and starting again as someone suggested that worked for them but when I do this it just gets frozen on "starting..." then when I restart my computer it seems to start indexing again but the file count goes back up.
Please advise.
Best,
Bryan
I think I figured out the issue. My HD was too low on space. I cleared some space and it seems to be syncing now so hopefully it all works out.

Hey bryangwin, sorry to see you're having this issue.
Which exact version of the Dropbox app do you currently have installed?
You can hover over the Dropbox icon to see this info.
Can you also quit the Dropbox app and then relaunch it from your applications folder, to see if that helps?
Keep me posted.

Hi Hannah,
I am using 167.4.4719

I get this error when I try to restart:
Couldn't start Dropbox.
This may be a temporary error. Please restart Dropbox.
For more information, click the help button.
but restarting it does not work
perhaps a restart of the computer again.

After restarting my computer I still get the same error and cannot open dropbox anymore.

Thanks for the update here, Bryan.
Do you see a blue hyperlink on the "couldn't start Dropbox" error, taking you to a .txt file with an error log?
If so, can you send us a copy or a screenshot of the error log?

I have the same issue. My dropbox indicates that it is indexing 106117 files for at least the last 2-3 weeks. I only realised it when I couldn't access files anymore on finder (they simply didn't show up) but I found them online on dropbox.com/home. But this is a cumbersome process if I want to open a file in an app.
I did the "Fix Hardlinks" and "Fix Permissions" to no avail. I reinstalled the dropbox app at least twice, also didn't change anything. I changed the sync option from "available offline" to "online only" - also no effect. I also realized that the dropbox icon doesn't show up anymore in finder (only in the "Go" Menu. I had to go to user/Library/CloudStorage and drag the Dropbox Icon over the sidebar (quite complicated compared to previously)).
I use Dropbox version 176.4.5108 on a IMac running Ventura 13.4. I have 2.63 TB available on a 3 TB Harddisk.
I'm at the end of my wits.

Hey rickenbacher, let's jump right into this!
If you locate your little Dropbox icon, on your menu bar next to your WiFi, and click on it, can you send me a screenshot of the exact syncing status of the app?
Also, would you mind if I send you an email, in order for us to have a closer look into this?
Keep me posted!
