iPhone photo uploads are corrupted

iPhone photo uploads are corrupted

jebauder
New member | Level 2

iPhone X, iOS 16.1

Manual upload of photos and videos with .jpg / .mov conversion enabled in Dropbox.

Of 2,700 photos & videos uploaded, about 450 are accessible. The files that are accessible follow the expected naming convention of "Photo <mmm> <dd> <yyyy>, <hh> <mm> <ss> [AM/PM].jpg" based on when the photo was taken. The inaccessible files are named according to the time when they're uploaded. This would seem to indicate that the meta tags are corrupted or missing. File extensions don't seem to matter (.png, .jpg, and .mov) as a mix are accessible and inaccessible. Dropbox.com says the file can't be previewed and W10 Photo Viewer reports that "It looks like we don't support this file format." HEIF/HEVC formats are supported on my PC.

I'll try uploading in smaller batches to see if that resolves the mass corruption.

Hey @jebauder, thanks for bringing this to our attention.

Not sure why this would happen, and I would like to see an example of both an accessible and an inaccessible file (name), if possible.

Which version of the Dropbox app are you also using?

And of course, please let us know what you find, if you upload less files at a time.

Thanks.

I am sada to see this is still an unresolved issue. I reported this at least a year ago, others probably have reported it as well in the meantime. The error is exactly as the poster here says.

The issue is extremely annoying as it means that it takes several takes to get a complete, uncorrupted photo set uploaded.

There is also another severe bug in dropbox for the iphone. It may or may not be related, but I remention it here in case it is and somehow leads to a solution here. The issue is: the save to dropbox -option shown in apple popup menus does not work. I have to first open the file and then click to save in dropbox. The dropbox option does not work from the first general purpose menu. I once got the menu working by uninstalling and reinstalling dropbox but this only lasted a few weeks.

I hate the apple cloud drive app, but seeing as you are still unable to see or fix the issue I may have to switch over to that. I really hope you can fix both issues. Both issues have now been a reality for at least a years, maybe two.

I'm sorry to hear about your overall experience, @loyal-user-ex

Do you remember on which platform you had reported this issue the first time? Was it here or via ticket perhaps? If it was via ticket, is it possible you still have the number, so that I can have a look?

Besides that, I'd like you to clarify the app version of the Dropbox app on your mobile device.

Is the second issue that you mention persisting no matter what, or does the "save to Dropbox" option seem to randomly work every now and then?

Currently the OS is the latest version of iOS on an iPhone 14 Pro. But the issue has been constant over this time and also affected ny previous iphone (11 pro).

The save to issue is constant. It never works. Also the apple file browser on the iphone does not show dropbox, only local and the apple icloud.

I don’t remember the original ticket number, but it didn’t lead to anything. I have the paid version of drobox, and the dropbox app otherwise works.

Hi @loyal-user-ex, have you tried contacting the support team again regarding this matter as they have more account and device specific information available?

No. As the problem still persists after so much time, and as other people are also seeing the same problem, my next step probably is to look for an alternative software. I will use Dropbox until I get too much fed up with the issue.

I have zero faith in the issue getting fixed, but I am happy to be surprised here. Dropbox WAS a great app 🙂

I am having the same issue. And the problem is if I go to upload to lightroom it will stop the entire upload because 2 files are corrupt. I agree that Dropbox was so much better years ago and it seems to only have gone downhill. I hope this can be resolved. If there is a break in an internet connection perhaps †he file should not be downloaded in it's entirety instead of a corrupt file. Ugh
