Can you download a shared link using the dropbox app?

Can you download a shared link using the dropbox app?

Hello,

So - I have a 300GB file I need to send to my client. I have uploaded it in my account using the sync desktop application, now, my client needs to download the file. I generate a download link and send.

Can my customer download this 300GB file with the desktop Windows application rather than through the browser? How?

Kindest regards,

Philip Kapadia

If they have their own Dropbox account with enough space available, they can use the option to save the file to their account (via the browser when viewing the link), which would then cause the file to sync to their computer through the Dropbox application, assuming they save it in a folder that syncs to their computer.

Hi @Philip Kapadia, thanks for contacting us!

The only method to download a link using the desktop app would be to add the shared link to their Dropbox account.

Assuming that they have enough quota for the file, it would be added successfully and then the desktop app would sync it to their computer.

This will help me to assist further!

Thanks for helping!

This is annoying. I can't ask my clients to purchase a cloud storage plan when I already have enough space—I simply want them to download the 300GB file I have in my account. That doesn't seem possible because Dropbox's browser download limit is only 200GB. Is there any way to work around this?

Disappointing, seeing as Dropbox is supposed to be the premium cloud storage solution with more features.

Thanks for your feedback on this @Philip Kapadia - it's been noted in our system and you can let us know if you have anything else to add.

In the meantime, a possible work-around would be to zip the file to lower its size or put it in a folder and share the folder directly with your client as mentioned.
