Printing/Downloading a PDF from DropBox

Printing/Downloading a PDF from DropBox

I work in the IT department in a county office building.  We have public users that incounter errors when trying to download/print PDFs from dropbox.  The errors are different between Chrome and IE.  In Chrome the PDFs will open blank or will print blank.  If opened in IE when you click print it begins a download and then gets stuck.  With both situations we have eleminated all possible issues from our side.  No network issues or restrictions, no profile restrictions, nothing to do with our network or setup.  There does not seem to be a common denominator.  It happens with 3mb files, with 100mb files, with 30mb files.  It will also randomly print all those sizes and any in between.  We cannot manage to resolve this for either IE or Chrome.  Does anyone have any input?

Hey @Charleston County, I hope you're well today!

Can you clarify for me if you are sharing this content through a shared link?

Also, please can you send a screenshot of the errors that you're getting in the different browsers?

If you're using a shared link, you can replicate the recipient opening the link by opening it through an incognito window where you're not signed into your Dropbox account.

Let me know - thanks!

Here is an example of IE and Chrome.  IE.PNGChrome.PNG

Also, I do not believe the user is using a link.  The public user is logging into their dropbox account and printing from there.

Thanks for getting back to me with that info @Charleston County!

In that case, just to rule out any browser specific issues, can you just try the following and let me know if there's any difference in the behaviour:

  • Try opening and printing from an incognito/private window
  • Clear browser cache and try again
  • Ensure browser is up to date and running the latest version

Let me know how it goes!

I have tried all those things but with no luck.

Thanks for trying those steps!

Would you mind letting me know the size of the file that you're currently trying to print?

It looks like the preview that you're trying to print from hasn't loaded all the pages as the scroll bar on the right side is short for 118 pages.

Keep me posted @Charleston County!

The file size doesn't matter.  Sometime is will print a 3mb or 100mb, other times it won't.  There is no relevence to the size.

Can we continue working on this issue today or should I contact support?
