A Word document is empty after downloading it on my device

When we download a word document (that shows content when opened in dropbox) it is empty (blank). What is the solution. I want people to be able to download this and not have to work with it in MS ...

this is also happening to me with my PDF.  I can see the update on Dropbox but when I download to my pc or upload to another location, no updates are shown.  Agree this is a BIG problem.
