Lost files after trying to upload them to my Dropbox account

Hello! I usually keep all my stuff on my Dropbox (professional account). I only used to have a folder with some stuff on my hard drive of my old laptop. I bought a new one last month and, to move this folder, I uploaded it to my Dropbox and then copied to the new hard drive. Something must have gone wrong at some point, as I only have now the folder (including subfolders), but no files at all in there. I am fearing the upload failed, but the files are no more in the original folder, or anywhere else. Is there any way I can recover them? If the upload failed, shouldn't they be in the original folder? Can they have gone lost in the move? Thanks!

Hey magaelfa, sorry to hear about this.

To add these files to your Dropbox, did you basically drag and drop them to your Dropbox folder?

Has syncing finished on the Dropbox application?

You can see that, by hovering over the Dropbox icon in your system tray/menu bar.

Let me know what you find and we'll go from there.

Hi Hannah, thanks for your answer. Yes, I dragger and dropped my folders to my Dropbox. Syncing looked complete to me, but now I am doubting it. How can I know that? It was a few weeks ago. Thanks!

What does your Dropbox icon report, when you hover over it, magaelfa?

    Hi Hannah,

it's green and done now, and I thought it was when I switched off my old laptop, but cannot be sure now...

Hey magaelfa, sorry for jumping in.

It sounds like the Dropbox app isn’t syncing anything at the moment, indeed.

By your last post, do you mean that you switched off your old laptop before the folder could 100% upload to Dropbox?

Did you check your Events page and Deleted files page? Do you see something more there perhaps?

Hi Nancy, thank you. I did switch off my laptop as syncing looked complete. Nothing unxpected among the deleted files. I tried rewinding several times and it did recover some files but for some reason they go straight to the deleted files and I cannot manage to restore them. Still trying to figure it out...

Hmm, that’s a bit odd. Can you send me a screenshot of what you see on your end perhaps, when trying to restore those files?
