When I try to upload a Quickbooks backup I get the error "Can’t load this file type."
When I try to upload a Quickbooks backup (~300MB) to Dropbox I get the error "Can’t load this file type This file type is unsupported here." What causes the error, and why does DB care?

Hi godfreyp, let's jump right into this!
Would you mind clarifying which of our platforms you're using when trying to upload your Quickbooks?
Do you use our desktop, or mobile app or website?
Let me know more, and we'll take it from there!

Hey godfreyp! Sorry to jump in here.
In general, we recommend that you don’t sync live databases with Dropbox, such as Quickbooks, as this may cause issues along the way. Most databases should have remote access methods as well, so you don't need to sync the live database. You can try uploading saved snapshots, however, with no issues.

So is DB acting as a nursemaid and preventing me from moving a .QBB file? If I zipped it would it work?

Hey godfreyp, you should try using our desktop app, or even zipping the files instead of uploading directly through our website; however I can't guarantee that this will 100% work.
That said, you can use Dropbox to share the data, but you need to take great care and understand how file syncing works.
Most programs create a "file lock" on any file that they are using, and this lock will prevent Dropbox from syncing the file.
I'm referring to the desktop app. In some cases you must fully quit the application before Dropbox can sync the data. You must then make sure Dropbox has finished syncing before trying to access the file from any computer.

Thanks Megan. I am confused. I have a Dropbox account which I access through Firefox on my PC. A also have a Dropbox folder on my PC which syncs with Dropbox on the web. I have a subfolder in that folder called "Lamorna Garage" which I have shared with my son. It has a little dot which displays his name if I hover over it.
We are trying to use Dropbox simply for file transfer. He will upload a QBB file to DB, then I will download it to my PC.
Why are we getting the error message, and what should we do differently?
Thanks

Hi godfreyp, could you clarify at exactly what stage you're getting this error?
Is it before the upload, during the upload, when it's on the site, or after you download and open it on your computer? A screenshot showing the error would help greatly.
