I'm getting a "Can’t save the changes" error when editing/trimming video files on www.dropbox.com.
For well over a year, I have been able to trim video clips straight from Dropbox, replace the original file and download them when needed. I have noticed however, that over the course of the last week, I have been unable to do this, and receive the following error:
Can’t save the changes
Something went wrong and we weren’t able to save the changes to this file.
I have tried this on different computers, and on my personal and work Dropbox account, and continue to get the same error.
If I choose the "create a copy" option, I am able to successfully trim the clip, however only if I do not change the file name, ensuring the existing file name with the word "(edited)" at the end is there. If I attempt to change the file name when saving a copy, I get the above error. Interestingly, I am able to change the name of an existing file (without trimming it) and it works.
I'm wondering if anyone knows why this may be, if there is a way of fixing it, or if it's a known issue at all? I've read that converting a video to H.264 often solves the problem, but on this occasion, it hasn't.
The work I do requires videos to be trimmed and turned over very quickly. The current workarounds (download, edit, re-upload/create a copy) do work for the time being, they're not a long-term solution.
If anyone is able to shed some light on the situation, that would be much appreciated.
Thank you!
Hi, thanks for your reply and apologies for the delay.
The issue has now been sorted. I haven't done anything differently per se, but it's now working just fine. Perhaps a minor week-long glitch in the system!

Hi, thanks for your reply. I can confirm that all of the above specifications have been met. I have never had an issue before with any of my video files, then in the last week it appears that the issue has started.

Hey tungstentalker, thanks for posting here!
You mentioned that you've tried to replicate the issue on different devices. I was wondering if you've tried a different browser too.
Can you clear your browser's cache, and also try an incognito mode, and let me know if you notice the same behavior there?
If you could also send me a screenshot of the error message you get when this happens, I'd appreciate the visual.
Keep me posted!
