Solved

Dropbox iOS app is consuming more space than expected.

I have the free 2GB version and have 1GB stored on my Dropbox. But on my Iphone settings it shows that Dropbox uses more than 7GB. Even if my Dropbox is empty.

I‘ve tried deleting the cache and I have no offline file. On the account settings in Dropbox it shows that Dropbox only uses around 700MB.

When I delete the App and install it again it only uses around 250MB.

Thank you for taking your time to read this and perhaps helping me out.

  • Sorry for the late reply. I checked today if this issue is still ongoing but after today it seems to be fixed. Now it always uses around 200mB.

Was there an update that fixed this?

    Hi MigiHunzi

It is possible that  you may have linked a personal account and a business account ( trial , paid, or expired trial) that are still linked together . That's most likely where the 7.GB is coming from ( 1G from your Personal account, and the rest is from your Business account ). That's the only thing I can think of . Also , there is an Offload App button that when clicked, will free up the storage used by the app, did you consider clicking that button ? Deleting the app as well would help , and just reinstall it . This should not affect the online files that are stored in your Dropbox account as they are still available via online access.

    Hope this helps.

Hey MigiHunzi, thanks for the info!

Out team is aware of this, and is actively working to fix it. Hang tight, and I'll make sure to update the thread once we have additional news.

-As a temporary fix, you can access your iPhone Settings > General > iPhone Storage > Dropbox.
-Tap Offload App, and then Delete App.
-Restart your phone, and reinstall Dropbox from the App Store.

Hey MigiHunzi, let's jump right into this!

As a first step, would you mind checking your account page online, and let me know what it reports? When did this behavior first start happening?

Do you have any screenshots of your mobile settings, in order for me to have a visual?

Keep me posted, and we'll take it from there!
