My MS Word and Excel apps on iPad still show files I've deleted from Dropbox.

Dear All,

On my iPad I have the MS Word and Excel Apps installed, and under the recents tab I see links to files I've since deleted from Dropbox.

When I try to "Remove from Recent" nothing happens.

When I try to delete it I get the message "xxx" will be permanently deleted from Dropbox, but instead of deleting it I get the message "Can't Delete File" This file can't be deleted now, try again later.

I have tried removing Dropbox from MS Word and Excel, restarting the iPad, reinstalling Word and Excel but when I connect Dropbox again I have these same messages..

Any help to solving this issues would be appreciated.

Steve

Hey harlings! Thanks for posting this on our Community.

If I’m not mistaken, your screenshots are from the Microsoft Word and Excel apps on your iPad. Correct?

If yes, I also tried the same steps as a test and the “Remove from list” option seems to be working (after deleting a file via the Dropbox mobile app).

Can you also reinstall Dropbox on your device, if you haven’t already?

Other than that, how long ago did you delete those files from your Dropbox account? Can you still recover them this way and then delete them again?

I’d like to see what will happen then.

Keep me posted for any updates.

Yes, they are screenshots taken from my iPad.

Tried a reinstall of Dropbox.. no change, still nothing happens when I try to remove them.

I restored Albania that I deleted yesterday and unable to remove that link either.

Thanks for giving that a try. Can you also send over a screenshot of the errors you’re getting on Microsoft?

What’s the app version you’re running on the Dropbox app?

    Hi Nancy,

Sorry for the delay I've been trying many things, all of which failed.

These are screenshots of my iPad on MS Excel trying to remove recent links..

The 2020.10 China is still on Dropbox but China.old was deleted recently. When I try to "remove from recent" nothing happens, no error message nothing!

Then this last one shows a folder called Provisional...237591809 wherever that turned up from, who knows?

The App version of Dropbox on my iPad is 390.2.2

    Kind regards, Steve

Hey @harlings - thanks for the additional information and the screenshots too.

Have you tried clearing the cache of all the apps to see how it goes?

If you did and this persists, you might need to reach out to Microsoft directly for further assistance.

Okay, so how do I clear out the cache from all apps on my iPad?

While I can't suggest on the other apps, for the Dropbox app on your iPad, you can follow these steps:

    1. Open the Dropbox iOS app.
    2. Tap the account icon (person) in the bottom right.
    3. Tap the gear icon in the top right.
    4. Scroll down and tap Clear cache.
    5. Tap Clear cache again.

Once you’ve cleared the cache, log out of the Dropbox app, restart your device, then log back in.

Let me know if that helped  @harlings

    Hi Walter,

Tried that idea, now there's a pair of links pointing to my two Excel spreadsheets both of which I'm unable to remove from recent..

Hi again, @harlings! To be honest, I also believe that this is mostly an issue with Microsoft at this point, so I’d suggest contacting them next to investigate this further (since everything is working normally on Dropbox’s side).

Thanks for that Nancy, but I tried that and apart from getting me to reset both the MS Excel and MS Word apps on the iPad then re-installing them again, it was like talking to the dead.
