217.4.4417 breaks screenshot pasting feature on Windows
A new update of Dropbox was pushed to me today.
It added a new set of options related to screenshots.
Show quick action after screenshot... I dislike this, I preferred just getting the notification, but at least I can turn this off.
When Screenshot is ready... "Copy link to clipboard" or "Copy Picture to clipboard"
I typically take a screenshot by pressing print screen, then pasting the screenshot in Discord or my art software, I REQUIRE this functionality to maintain my productivity.
but I also like to have the image saved to dropbox as a backup.
With "Copy Link to Clipboard", well, it's a link, Art software isn't going to know what to do with that, and discord doesn't inline images from Dropbox very well, so I'd still rather have an image in the clipboard.
The 2nd option, "Copy Picture to Clipboard", well, when I try and paste, nothing happens.
I want a 3rd option... "Leave Clipboard alone", just, whatever print screen normally does, just let it happen. Just Save the image to my Screenshots folder in Dropbox, and leave it at that, like it used to be.
Is that too much to ask?
Note: I do pay for Dropbox.
I think I have a new problem...
No there hasn't been an update, it's still V219.4.4463, but when I press the Print Screen button, Dropbox seems to... not do anything, Even though I have the Save Screenshots to Dropbox check turned on, it's not doing that.
As far as I can tell, it hasn't been saving screenshots for a few days, so this persisted through PC reboots.
EDIT: And after typing this, it's started working again.
I'd been toggling the settings on the screenshot page on and off with no effect. The last thing I did before it started working again was turn on "Ask to backup external drives" in the backup section.

Yes. Everything seems to be working correctly.
With the link option turned off, I can paste my screenshots into my art software, Telegram and even Discord now.
And of course, with the link option turned on, it pastes a link into Discord/Telegram, but not the art software, as expected. - RyanFromDropbox11 months ago

Bobingabout -- Thanks for the update!
As you mentioned in your initial post (before updating), we’ve added a new toggle to the Screenshot settings that will allow you to control whether a link is auto-copied, or the clipboard behavior remains unchanged. I want to confirm: aside from Discord, this is working properly for you, correct?
On Discord specifically, I have seen a few mentions of Discord’s “Legacy chat input” setting. It looks like enabling that might resolve the issue? This could be outdated, but wanted to suggest it!
Looking forward to hearing from you.

Today Dropbox automatically updated to V219.4.4463.
It was acting weird, turned out to be Discord.
I'll let you know if I have any real issues. - Bobingabout1 year agoNew member | Level 1
It has reverted to a simple "Save Screenshots to Dropbox" toggle, which does solve the problem.
Thanks. - Walter1 year ago

Hi all, sorry for the tardy response. I just wanted to mention that this should be resolved now and please let us know if anything else comes up.

I'm on the same version, and this functionality broke for me as well. Hopefully this gets resolved soon, as I rely on this functionality as well. I never asked for this update to be pushed, and someone clearly didn't test it properly. If it makes a difference, I'm on Windows 10 x64.

Hi, Bobingabout -- thanks for the additional details. I've passed these to our team, and we're looking into the issue. I'll follow up soon, once I have more information on a resolution. Stay tuned!
Cheers,

As far as the software I've tried, Telegram is the only piece of software I've tested that does actually let me post the screenshot. Nothing else I've tried does.
Yes, it's the same screenshot. I press the Print Screen button, Discord won't let me paste, switch to Telegram and it will let me paste, Switch back to Discord and it won't let me paste.
If I do as you suggested, "Copy Link to Clipboard" in settings, but then press "Copy Image to Clipboard" on the popup, I get the same result.
The Win+V clipboard history shows the links when I have the copy to link option selected, but doesn't show the screenshots.
To note: I am running on the latest version of Windows 10.
