Accidentally unlinked my computer from my account and linked it to a different one

After getting a very inadequate response from DropBox, I am seeking help from the community.  After my computer restarted after uploading some windows 10  changes, I ended up with a splash screen for DropBox.  Clinking on it, I found that I had loaded in another DropBox application which had no files and only the starter file space.  I searched my computer and found in my file explorer main tree two icons for Dropbox.  I also found that my old DropBox files had been put into a folder labeled DropBox (old).  These were my up-to-date file folders prior to the restart.  When I go on-line to my Dropbox, I find an older version on my files (like before the restart).  I have saved the "new" Dropbox(old) folder to a separate hard drive for safe keeping.  I would like to delete Dropbox from my computer and do a fresh install and then upload my DropBox)old).  I tried deleting the Dropbox app using the outlined procedures but it doesn't delete both the file tree icons., only one. I would like to go the old account because I have accumulated bonus storage space ( with Quicken, etc.).  Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi Mark,

I tried a reinstall from the site you reference and two things happened.  It downloaded the DropBox Desktop app but did it as a new user.  THis is what happened before.  Also, it open up what I think is my cloud base DropBox but I didn't see a way of linking the two.  The web base or cloud base has 11GB of storage and the new account only has 5GB.

And it won't leave an icon in the tray without downloading that new app.

I do not believe it is still installed on my computer, however, there is a icon in my file explorer file tree that shows DropBox and I can't get rid of it.

    I am using windows 10.

    Thanks for the update, Mdearing3540.

Is the Dropbox app still installed on your computer?

Also, are you using a Windows or a Mac device?

    Hey Hannah,

I have no DropBox icon in my systems tray/menu bar right now.  I still have an icon in my file explorer tree for some DropBox account which has not been set up yet.

I can not find the "preferences" you are referencing and consequently, I cannot find "Account".  I tried going to the account online but still couldn't find it.  I need more detail.

Hey Mdearing3540, thanks for your post and sorry to see you're having issues.

By the sounds of it, you've linked the Dropbox app to a different account, but it should be an easy fix.

If you click on the Dropbox icon in your system tray/menu bar, then on your initials/profile pic, then on "preferences" and then on "account", you should see the account linked to the Dropbox app.

From there, you can unlink/sign out of that account.

Then, the app will prompt you to sign in again and you can just sign in with your original account.

Let me know how it goes.
