Dropbox app won't open on Mac

Hi.

I've come into work today to find that the Dropbox icon has disappeared from the finder on all our Macs. I can still access Dropbox by clicking on the folder in the sidebar, but the actual app won't open. I've tried uninstalling, rebooting and re-installing which seemed to work, but whilst the app was starting up it came up with the error below, so I'm not sure what's going on. The Macs are running Montery 12.6.6.

  • Hi Hannah,

We appear to be back to normal now. We've come back to work after the weekend (Macs left in sleep mode), started up Dropbox and it has opened, synced and stayed open, so not sure what happened there.

Hi Jon Hidden-Coley, thanks for bringing this to our attention.

The error you’re encountering should be temporary and could be fixed by restarting the Dropbox desktop app.

Could you try quitting the app, then opening it again from the Applications folder in Finder?

Keep me updated with any progress!

    Hi Jay,

I've tried that a few times now and double clicking on the desktop app does nothing. I've also tried an advanced re-install which was initially successful and everything synced, but after about 5 minutes, the Dropbox icon in the finder disappeared.

Sorry to jump in here, Jon Hidden-Coley.

Are you still getting the above error now? Or did the app just crash and is not opening?

    That's wonderful to hear, Jon.

Perhaps the app got an update that fixed the issue you were having, can't say for sure without access to your account info, but I'm happy to hear everything is back to normal.

If you come across any issues again, let us know.

    Have a great week ahead!
