what the title says, db alerted me of not having enough space, though the sum of all folders was way less than the space I have. Now I have deleted every folder in my dropbox, and still says there are 7GB in it, I have already checked hidden files.

I have the same problem -- found "Backups" and now don't know which settings to change to get rid of the problem.  Not sure I know what the "Backups" function is?

Thanks for the nudge here, @joancleary.

The backup feature is a feature of the Dropbox desktop app, which backs up your desktop folders to Dropbox.

Have you tried to disable the feature as a first step?

Thanks for this response.  After days of trying to understand what the backup system is and how to disable it, I was finally able to remove the backed-up items I did not need.  It is almost impossible to find the correct path to the backup system explanations.  They seem to be an unfortunate vicious circle that perpetuates the use of additional Dropbox space.   I am glad to now understand how to extricate my account from this system.

I see, thanks for the update here, Joan!

I'm glad you were able to figure this out and that everything is back to normal now.

We do appreciate your feedback on this as well.
