A Word document is empty after downloading it on my device

When we download a word document (that shows content when opened in dropbox) it is empty (blank).

What is the solution. I want people to be able to download this and not have to work with it in MS online.

Hello charlesbank, thanks for reaching out to us here!

Can you try the following steps to see if there's any difference in the downloaded files there?

    • Clear your browser cache and try again
    • Use an incognito window and download the file from there
    • Use another web browser to download the file

Let me know how it goes!

I'm having the same issue - tried it incognito as well.  The document downloads with no content. When I open it in Word - it opens empty.  It appears that something is happening when I "save as", since the original document appears to be fine and downloads correctly.  Also - I'm finding some documents have the option to open in the Word program - others do not (including the document I'm referencing).  I know this isn't your fault, but considering how much I have paid monthly for the past 5+ years the glitches are becoming a bit of a pain.

Hi JChristine, what version of Word are you opening on your machine? Are the other documents also Word files? Are they located in the same or different folders?

Any other info or screenshots would be helpful!

I had the same problem.  When I download my file.docx, it downloads, but when I open the file, it is blank.

What worked for me is from the dropbox list of files, I double click on the file to open it, and then, from in the edit screen, I click the download icon at the top right.

    Hope this helps

I have the same issue. Dropbox is not taking this seriously enough - this makes Dropbox unusable!!

Hi there e_big - sorry to hear about this.

Could you let us know if this happens with only one Word file of yours or if it's affecting other files as well?

Are you able to preview it normally on the website by the way?

this is also happening to me with my PDF.  I can see the update on Dropbox but when I download to my pc or upload to another location, no updates are shown.  Agree this is a BIG problem.

Hi AMeyers, as you're currently experiencing this issue, I'd recommend contacting the support team directly for them to investigate further.

Same issues, very frustrating.  Had our IT go through all the "fixes", was told it is a dropbox issue.  Please resolve.
