Drop Box Web/Website Not accessible

Hi

I have the Dropbox app installed on my phone and desktop. On my desktop I cannot access Dropbox via a web browser. On my phone this is possible. The error on my browser (Mozilla) reads; Unable to Connect.

I have tried:

- disabling and uninstalling my Norton anti virus
- using a different web browser
- using a different internet connection
- checked my windows firewall for any mentions of Dropbox

I need to access the web version for various reasons, otherwise the app would suffice.

Interesting, the IP address 127.0.0.1 is localhost, meaning it is your own computer, so not a direct connection to the web.

The first thing I'd check is if the HOSTS file is blocking the Dropbox site. You can find the location for the file using these steps.

The Dropbox site wouldn't appear in the HOSTS file normally, unless an app or service is doing it.

Hi Marlon4, thanks for posting on the Community!

In general, if you're getting this issue, then there is a possibility that a proxy, VPN, firewall, security software, or even ISP/router issues that could be restricting traffic to the following Dropbox domains.

On the mobile, are you connected to the same WiFi network, or are you using cellular data?

When you say you tried using a different network connection, did you move your desktop to another network?

This will help me to assist further!

    Hi

Thanks for getting back to me.

On mobile it connects on wifi and cellular. I have also tried connecting on desktop using my phone as a hotspot; didn’t work.

So I’m guessing it’s something on the desktop stopping the connection. However I’m drawing a blank.

No vpn and anti virus wasn’t the cause. I didn’t intentionally install any network traffic monitor/controller other than Norton.

Could you try running the browser in incognito mode, with no extensions and plugins running, to see if it can connect?

Try opening command prompt (Windows key + R, then type cmd), and then type ping dropbox.com.

Even if it fails to ping back, if you see an IP address there, which should look like xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx, try typing that into the browser and keep me updated.

    Hi

I have tried incognito mode and checked on extensions and I don’t have any installed to turn off.

Ran cmd prompt as an admin, pinged the Dropbox server (127.0.0.1) and got a response.

    So no luck 😞
