File password not recognised-Dropbox says it's wrong
I have a Word file on my desktop computer and it has a password.
I uploaded it to Dropbox and the file was uploaded successfully.
When I double-click on it to open it, Dropbox can see there's a password on the file and asks me to enter the password.
I entered the password and Dropbox said the password was WRONG. I did the whole process three times, including looking at my keyboard to check I was inputting the password correctly.
Dropbox still said the password was wrong.
Help!!!
Hi IreneD, it sounds like this file has a password to prevent it from being edited.
In general, you can't open or edit password-protected Office files via the site, so they'd need to be downloaded.

Hey IreneD, sorry to hear you're having issues with this.
May I ask if you're trying to view this file on your computer via the Dropbox folder or on our website directly or via the Microsoft Word online integration perhaps?
Does the file open normally after downloading and opening it locally on your computer?
Let us know and we'll take it from there, Irene.

Hello Walter
I was in the www.dropbox.com website (ie not an app on my computer), after logging into my account.
Then:
Yes, I can download the file and open it on my computer - after inputting my password. So it seems there's no file corruption.
So the issue is why I can't double-click it, input my password, and have the file open on the dropbox screen.

REGARDING WORD: I today tried the following: Didn;t know there was such a thing as Microsoft Word online integration (where is that?). I found the box that says "open in Word for the web" but the response was the file is protected by a password and can't be opened.
I then tried opening it (under open in Word for the web) by "open in reading view" and it DID open after I successfully entered my password. But that "open in Word for web" is useless to me if I want to edit the file.
-------------------------
Any help please. Otherwise, any time I look at a password protected document, I will have to save it back to my computer, then select it to open it.
Irene
