I've shared a folder, but now it doesn't appear on my account
I have tried to share a folder with a team member.
The folder could not be shared both on the website or from the app in windows.
When I tried to find the folder I get "folder does not exist" still the folder is on my PC and syncing.
Yet there is no longer a folder with this name in my Dropbox. I have checked on multiple machines.
The folder is on the pc's but not on the dropbox website....
I am sure no deletion has taken place. This is a folder with all my rendered work!
So I'm a bit in trouble. Hope someone can help. In all the 10 years of using Dropbox I have not seen this before.
If a shared folder isn't successfully shared, then it could return to being a private folder. In doing so, it would be re-added to your account, like what you're seeing there.

Hi bigpixel, thanks for bringing this to our attention.
Just for clarification, the folder is definitely still in the Dropbox folder on your computer, with all the files inside it? Do the files have any syncing icons on them?
Do you see any recent events or deleted files on the Dropbox site?
This will help me to assist further!

Yes, I have looked into the events.
And a Marcus a dropboxer followed up on my request. However I just got a mail with self helplinks.
I will paste my reply here:The main issue resolved itself.
I have not taken screenshots.
I must say you ask questions that were give: like
Device: [Removed as per Community Guidelines]Affected shared folder users: [Removed as per Community Guidelines]
In events there is strange things going on.
I have NOT added this folder as it has existed already for a long time.
At 15.55 I shared the Diergeneeskunde_RENDER folder with [Removed as per Community Guidelines] and something went wrong.
I then got an error and after that the folder was no longer there.
Apparently it started re adding itself again later. But without the share. And I got no notification so I was worried my work was lost.
There is no mention of this sharing in the events.
At 4.09 it starts adding folders again to this Diergeneeskunde_RENDER.Which is strange because I did NOT do that action at 4.43. This was done by dropbox.
The error was like mentioned, that the folder does not exist ( while it did on all systems )
Then it lost its shares and I shared it later again.
Scared the life out of me... I mean what would you do if this happened to your bank account? Oh 0 ... oops.
That's how valuable the files are to me. That's why I use dropbox.
Should I consider a different service? My trust in dropbox has been shaken.
But it is working now. Hopefully you have a way to figure out it will not happen again.

On an unsuccessful share, this info could be shared. This information could prevent stress and loss of time in a case like this.
Important is that this procedure looks like you lose your files. We have Dropbox because our files matter.
Communicating something like this is helpful!
"Hey! your files are ok .. an unsuccessful share might trigger such and such response, no worries, the folder will be re added and will be private .. so don't forget to re share!"
If that would have been communicated, it would have saved both me and Dropboxers time. - ttwny2 years agoExplorer | Level 3
I have an entire folder that came up missing and it doesn't show in my deleted files. I was in it 11AM yesterday and went to go back in at 3PM and have yet to find it. Not sure what to do. It is a shared file, but no one was in yesterday. How can I get help to find this on the back end?

I clicked on the link and saw my file sitting there but when I tried to add it back to my dropbox it made me save it and then there was no data converted. So I see the update I did yesterday as per the events, but I can't get access to it to restore it. That doesn't include the all the other files that was in that folder. Sigh.... this is overwhelming.

Hi ttwny, let's jump right into this!
So, just to make sure we're on the same page: it seems a shared folder of yours got removed.
You added it back to your account, but now it's empty with no files in it, right? If the folder wasn't successfully added back to your account, let me know!
Also, were you the owner, or a member there?
Let me know more!

Mark,
It is not showing in the share and when I went to find it on the "events" link, I did see the file name but there is absolutely nothing in the file. That is just one of the documents that was in the folder that is missing. My quick links on my PC is still looking for the folder. One of these files (the one I found and tried to upload) is EXTREMELY vital to our marketing and P&L for our business. Is there not a way to go back and find this thing before it was jacked up. ....Inwardly trying not to stress.
Also, I'm sorry I'm delayed but I work in the shop multiple days and only have small windows of desk time. I'm super delayed in resolving this because by the time I get a response, another day has gone by. sigh

Actually, I never found the folder at all. Not even on the events link provided to me by someone else. As I have been going through my folders today, I have found that there is not only 1 folder missing but 5 of them. Several pictures for our business menus, form, lists and marketing/analysis worksheets that I am in all the time..........missing. Is there not a way to go back to when this all happened? I'm not even sure what happened .......... So the one you asked me about was actually that marketing spreadsheet. I could see it by name but when I opened it or tried to upload it...... zero. 😞
