Public links have been temporarily suspended for generating excessive traffic.
I got an email saying
This email is an automated notification from Dropbox letting you know that your Public links have been temporarily suspended for generating excessive traffic.
Upgrade your Dropbox account today to increase the total amount of traffic your link and file requests can generate.
For more information on suspended links, please visit the Help Center. Your current account bandwidth limit is 20.00 GB and your current usage is 21.19 GB. You may remove the suspension by clicking this link otherwise please visit the Help Center.
I looked in my shared folder and I don't really have much in there.
so I clicked on the link to remove the suspension and then three minutes later I got another email
Your current account bandwidth limit is 26.00 GB and your current usage is 33.13 GB.
how do I What links these are? I have a few shared folders but I'm not the owner of those folders
my current usage is very small so I don't know where this bandwidth usage is measured or shown

I have been unable to use my Dropbox to share anything or even to assign a folder to someone else for over a day now.
From what I can tell possibly a file around 150 megabytes was shared by a client to their clients list of thirty people. However this does not explain how it could cause 12 gigabytes of bandwidth in three minutes.
Unfortunately clicking File Info does not tell me anything and clicking File activity does not do anything So it is all just a guess.
In any case I don't see why this means I cannot use my account at all now.
this is not the reliability one needs

now my whole dropbox account is more or less banned
I cannot share a folder with another email address
I cannot deliver files to a client
apparently because someone I'm guessing one of the clients took my link and somehow downloaded it too many times
shouldn't you block them from downloading rather than blocking me from sharing?

Hi there, jumpinjackeroo, let's jump right into this!
It sounds like access to your sharing was paused on your account.
Have you checked this article to see if any of the files you're trying to share, or have already shared breaches the Terms of Service? You can also take a look here for more info.
Lastly, how long has it been since you received the email and also got the error message as well?
Let us know more and we'll take it from there.

I have these deleted folders that I'm not the owner of
I have no shared files
I have this shared folder but it's about 200MB
I don't know how someone could use 12 gigabytes of bandwidth in three minutes If it's from this 200 megabyte folder
I did have a shared folder last week which was about 15GB. That was deleted last week though so I really doubt it has anything to do with this.
