There is no option to share a folder with someone

Question or Issue
I want to share a folder with someone (not on the same network , via email) and give them editing rights - as we have done for many years - but there is no 'Share' option in the menu. Please advise

Hi Hopppers40, thanks for joining the Community!

Could you confirm that you're following these steps to share a folder with another user?

Is this via the Dropbox site, the desktop app, or via Explorer/Finder?

Are you certain that this is a shared folder, and not a team folder?

Any other info or screenshots would be helpful!

I have the same problem. I think there was an update. Usually you can right-click on a file or folder but the share option is gone.

Hey MLouH - sorry to hear about this.

Can you clarify the exact steps you take to share your folders so that we can make sure we're on the same page?

Usually I right-click on the folder or file, and use the SHARE option and then either share or get a link to share. Now, the SHARE option is gone. I typically use the Dropbox folder on my desktop.

So it it safe to assume that you're using the Dropbox desktop app and not the website MLouH?

If so, what is the app's status and version as shown in your taskbar/menu bar?

The Dropbox desktop app seems to have updated itself and sharing has been possible. However, I have added more files to the shared folder and the other party is not seeing them. The folder seems to be trying to sync (2 rotating arrows symbol)... but not going anywhere.

    Please advise again...

Hey Hopppers40, thanks for the update!

Are you able to see the files when you visit your account online?

Also, would you mind clarifying which app version you currently have installed, along with the app's syncing status? You can find both by hovering your mouse over the little Dropbox icon in your taskbar next to your WiFi.

Just trying to see how many files the desktop app seems to be syncing right now.

I can see the files on my Desktop - there is no app version showing.

I also have Dropbox Plus on my phone - vers 450.2.2... and I can't see recently added the files in the folder there either.

Must say, I'm getting rather frustrated with the platform!

Hey Hopppers40, thanks for the info, and appreciate your patience while we try to get to the bottom of this.

On my end, I want to gather as much info as possible in order to provide you with the next steps, and see how we're going to proceed, so bear with me.

Since you can't see the files when opening your Dropbox mobile app, that means they haven't synced online yet. Which would then explain why the member can't see them on their end.

Do you still see the blue syncing icons next to your files? Also, did you have any trouble locating the app's syncing status? I'd need to know what it states since it'd give me an insight as to what's happening, and why the files have yet to sync online. In order for your content to be visible online it'd need to be "up-to-date".

One last thing I need to ask is if you're using the new Dropbox for Windows update. If so, then can you try opting out of the update using the steps mentioned here?

Let me know of any updates, and we'll go from there.
