I lost 3GB of storage after my account was supposedly converted back to Basic.
Hi, I've had a Basic plan with 10.4GB of storage for years. I got an unexpected email yesterday saying I'm "back on Dropbox Basic" because my admin took no action on a free trial. I didn't sign up for a free trial, and I've never been paying. Any idea why I lost 3GB of storage capacity? How can I figure out what happened and how to fix it?

Thanks for posting on our forum about this, bnehring.
From your post, I understand that you were previously part of a Dropbox team that has now been disbanded.
However, can you also send me a screenshot of the email you received, so that I can check it?
Also, if you happen to have any screenshots showing your previous storage space on Dropbox, please attach it here, as well.
It’ll be better to have a visual first before investigating this further.
Let me know when you’re ready.

Hi bnehring,
I hope I can be of help in interpreting the different information you see on the 2 screenshots you just posted. The first screenshot that shows a usage of 8.80 GB of 10.40 GB, the 8.80 GB is your total usage for the files you stored in your own personal account, while the 10.40 GB is the aggregate or total space used for the whole team . On the other hand, in the second screenshot, with a usage of 8.79Gb of 7.38 GB . This means that before you were invited to join the team trial, your total space used is already 7.38GB , and when you joined the team, as you continue working on your files inside the team account, you were able to use additional space that increased your usage to 8.79GB or 8.80GB. If you want to find out what is really your total space before you were joined in to the team , you can click this link while logged in to your personal Basic account : https://www.dropbox.com/account/referrals You will see the total bonus space you earned, and when you add it towards your 2GB basic space, it should give you a total space of around 7+GB. Thank you.

So you are saying I had 7.38GB of personal space, and a separate ~3GB of space with my team trial, and this was reported together? How then was I able to store 8.8GB (for years!) with only 7.38GB of personal space? I understand the aggregate free space was reported, but surely they were still 2 separate buckets that could fill up independently? Or did I truly have 10.4GB of space I could entirely use in my personal space?

Hi Hannah , I have a related issue with the max number of devices being set to 3. I tried to reply to the ticket but it is closed. Whatever happened to my account to reduce the max storage space also reduced the number of max devices. As far as I know I never had a limit before, or at least it was not 3 devices. Can that part of my account be restored/fixed just like the max storage was? Thank you!

Hey bnehring - sorry to jump in here, but I wanted to clarify that the device limit for the Dropbox Basic plan is 3 devices at this time and you won't be able to add more than 3 to your account as long as you're on that plan.
I hope this clears things up and let us know if you have any other questions.
