Dropbox looks for programme on wrong drive after BIOS update
Hi, I've PC running Win 11 with two drives. C: HDD and D:SDD
I recently moved Dropbox from C to D, and changed the location in Settings via Taskbar.
However, after a BIOS update this week, Dropbox now won't start from Taskbar. (I can still access all my documents by going to the drive). I think it's looking for the program in C.
Here's the error I get each time I click on the icon. Any suggestions about what to do?

Hi, the Dropbox program won't open now. Should I uninstall and reinstall?
Thanks

Elektra, Did you try to wipe out "read only" flag for "D:\elekt" and all subfolders (including Dropbox)? 🤔
Good luck.

Hi, sorry I don't understand the question.
I can't see a 'read only' flag. At present, I can't edit any documents in the D drive, including those in Dropbox.
I think I will contact HP, who had alerted me to update the BIOS which has caused this issue.
Thanks

🙂 You can't edit anything because you set it (possibly the entire drive) as "read only". I don't know how you have this done, but it's so:
...real_path='D:\\elekt\\Dropbox'
mode=0o40555 uid=0 gid=0
parent mode=0o40555 uid=0 gid=0
...
The digit 5 above means you can read it only. To be possible writing/changing, these digits should be either 6 or 7.
Try change "read only" flag from folders/drive properties in Windows Explorer.

I changed the read only flag in drive D.
However, this hasn't changed the status of existing documents. I cannot edit them but have to save on C drive.
I can create new documents and edit them however.
V bizarre.

Hi Elektra, thanks for clarifying.
Could you maybe try out these steps, and let me know if anything changes once you do?

Thanks Megan!
Will try on Saturday. Am out tomorrow.

Hi Megan
I followed the instructions but couldn't see the Edit button on the Advanced tab. I am going to uninstall Dropbox and reinstall on the C Drive. Can't see any other solution.
Thanks

Hi Megan
Should I do an advanced reinstall following the instructions on this page https://help.dropbox.com/installs/advanced-reinstall
Thanks

Hi Elektra, you can try the advanced reinstall if you wish. I'd personally recommend ensuring that your local Dropbox files are also stored in a non-Dropbox folder just in case, since you've been having issues with the folder itself.
