Logic Pro X projects stored in Dropbox don't show up in "Recent"
Hi all, this is a niche issue and probably not Dropbox's "fault", but thought I'd ask here just in case.
Since I upgraded to the latest version of Dropbox for Mac (which moved the folder location, etc.), Logic Pro X projects stored in Dropbox no longer show up in File > Open Recent or in the Recent tab of Logic's startup window.
The same thing was already happening with Google Drive for Desktop, so I would guess it's a general issue with the File Provider API. However, projects stored in iCloud Drive do show up in Recent.
Other Apple apps (TextEdit, Pages) will show files from Dropbox in the Open Recent menu. (And Dropbox-stored Logic projects do show up in Recent Items under the top-left Apple menu.)
Making the folders available offline doesn't help.
Running Logic 10.7.6 in Ventura 13.1 on an M1 MacBook Pro.
Any ideas?
Hallelujah! It's fixed in Logic 10.8!

Dropbox support is RIDICULOUS. I've contacted them several times and they simply don't know why this is happening. Last update DESTROYED dropbox usage and workflow on Mac, introducing tons of stupid bugs like this one.

Logic compatibility has never been ideal with Dropbox (I've used Dropbox for years with Logic) but this is the final straw. I'm moving over to iCloud. It's not worth the hassle.

I've used Dropbox as the main location for my Logic projects for years and never had a single problem. Now it's a pain in the ass, honestly, not only with Logic, there are A LOT of little stupid bugs, so long that last time I wrote Dropbox support it took me around 30 minutes to write and explain them all.
Time to say goodbye and search for a better option.

Dropbox have dropped the ball on this. iCloud+ offers 2TB storage for same price as Dropbox. No more hassle for us Mac & Logic Pro users.
- Ra60002 years agoExplorer | Level 4Can you confirm youāve movies over to iCloud and have no issues with Logic syncing and that the recents menu works?
- Midi_Sordino2 years agoHelpful | Level 5Iām in the process of moving to iCloud+. I have a bit of prep to do, i.e. download all my Dropbox files etc., which will take a bit of time. But Iāve done a test in Logic and I can confirm that ārecent itemsā definitely does work with iCloud+

- MoksieMeppie2 years agoExplorer | Level 4I did the switch to iCloud but switched back to Dropbox. Man iCloud was **bleep**ty, haha. Sharing is to much of a hassle or I couldnāt understand it. My solution, I made a shortcut in the default logic project folder to my personal project folder (Which is in Dropbox) so I have quick access to my projects.

iCloud+ is not perfect for all needs for sure. I want a cloud service mainly for off-site backup rather than sharing files. Dropbox had been great for me as backup but issues like 'recent items' not showing up in Logic Pro X - which I use every day - are a real dealbreaker.
I've been looking at iCloud+, and I hear what your saying. It has its issues, e.g. 'Desktop and Documents' backup can't be configured separately, but at least the functionality of Logic isn't compromised and it's more future-proof for Mac users. Dropbox seems to have had some issues since the change to Apple silicon.
Can you explain your shortcut/ alias solution?
Thanks.

I'm back to the drawing board. I've tried iCloud+ and it's not great if you need to sync between different computers. You can't customise which folders to sync and the whole system seems too broad and lacking in features I take for granted in Dropbox. You can't even pause sync. I'm hoping Dropbox will find a fix for 'recent items' not showing up in Logic soon šš¼
