Automatic logout from the Dropbox desktop app at a specific time (e.g., midnight)

I would love to see a feature in Dropbox that allows admins or users to schedule an automatic logout from the desktop application at a specific time—for example, every night at midnight.

In many workplaces, multiple employees share the same computer, and they don’t always remember to sign out of Dropbox at the end of the day. This leaves their files and data accessible to whoever uses the computer next. An automatic daily logout would improve security and privacy, ensuring that every user starts fresh the next day and logs in to their own account.

If possible, this feature could be customizable, allowing admins to set different logout times or trigger events based on company policies (like end of shift). It would be a great addition for both business and personal users who share devices.

Thank you for considering this idea!

Hey Wojciech B, thanks for clarifying!

Keep in mind that even if a user is signed out when using the app, the Dropbox folder will remain locally on the device.

That's why I asked about the remote wipe option, which I'm not entirely sure would work because then each user would need to sync their files anew.

In any case, I appreciate all the information that you have provided my way.

    Hi Megan,

I would like to clarify that my main goal is to ensure that the Dropbox application on a computer automatically logs out the current user after a specified time (e.g., at midnight). This way, on shared computers, the next person using the device would not have access to the previous user's files and data without manually logging out. I am not directly interested in remotely wiping the device or deleting the Dropbox folder because, even if the folder remains, once the user is logged out, the files left in the folder will not be visible. My primary concern is to ensure that each user must log in to their own account to access Dropbox.

However, if there is a possibility to additionally secure the local Dropbox folder after automatic logout, that would be an added advantage. The main feature I am proposing is the ability to schedule an automatic logout of the Dropbox application on a computer at a specified time.

    Best regards,
    Wojciech B

Hey Wojciech B, I hope you're doing well!

Just to make sure we're on the same page: would you want the device to be remotely wiped as described here

I'm asking, because the Dropbox folder would remain on the device upon unlinking it, so I want to make sure that this is what you'd like.

    Keep me posted!
