Hi all,
Thank you for alerting us to this problem.
Firstly, I would like to assure you that this is only a visual issue and it will not affect the performance of your Desktop Application in any way.
Our team is aware of this and Dropbox engineers have been working on a solution.
A fix is available in the latest beta which you can find here https://www.dropboxforum.com/t5/Dropbox-desktop-client-builds/Beta-Build-154-3-5344/td-p/611355 and will be released to the next stable version in the coming weeks.
We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused.
Thanks,
Dave
Hey @Ted G., happy Thursday!
How long has it been like that? Also, did you reboot the device by any chance?
Let me know!

hello, A gray Dropbox icon means that the Dropbox desktop app isn’t connected to the internet. This means that changes you make to the Dropbox files and folders on your computer won’t update everywhere you access your files in Dropbox until you’re connected to internet again. Learn why Dropbox might not be connecting and how to solve it.

The box was connected to the internet though. I literally used it to open this forum thread. lol
Hey @Ted G., what do you see when you hover over the Dropbox icon with your mouse? Any error messages?

The boilerplate "not connected to the internet" answer is WRONG.
There is a bug in v153.3.3924 (I'm running it on both macOS 12.4 and 12.3.1)
I've restarted, reset PRAM, and reinstalled the app. Twice.
All of my files - business and personal - are up to date.
No sync issues reported.
But the icon is GREY, not WHITE.
I am having the same issue on 3 different computers recently. Everything is syncing fine, but the menu bar icon is grey.
well, this is odd.
I put one of my Macs to sleep, and when I resumed, started Dropbox, and looked, the icon was white (or black, depending on the background).
I then attempted to close > restart Dropbox again, and it remained grey (I couldn't get it to not be grey).
I also killed the two Dropbox Finder Extensions but that didn't have an impact.
So my belief is that it's a network ping/sensor in the application, maybe coupled with certain backgrounds (this sounds awfully odd).
And it's kind of immediate - if the app starts up grey, it remains grey. If it starts up white (or black), it remains white or black.
I have the same issue.
Hi everyone, if you're still experiencing these issues, please could you get in contact with the support team directly for further assistance for them to investigate in more detail.
