Mac Download Issue: Dropbox Video Stops at 90–95% and Freezes in the end

Device
(Mac M1)
Operating System/Browser (if using the web)
macOS15.7
Dropbox  Browser Version in chrome

Question or Issue

I have a large video file (about 2 hours, 39 Gb). On the Dropbox platform, I can watch the full video without any issues. However, after downloading it to my Mac, it seems the download does not complete 100% (only about 90–95%), even though macOS shows the download as successful and complete. When I play the file in QuickTime Player, the last part freezes. The first time I downloaded it, the last 15 minutes froze; on the second attempt, it was only the last 8 minutes. Is there another way to download the file, such as a compressed ZIP or multipart archive, or to crop the video so I can download just the final 8 minutes?

Note: I have enough capacity in my storage

  • thanks you! Finally I download Dropox app in my mac and I download from the cloud dropbox and I was be able to watch the full video, thanks you!

Hi there Marcelopuravidamedia and welcome to the Dropbox Community! 😊

I am glad to see your issue is resolved - downloads stalling right at the end can be especially frustrating, so it’s great to hear your video was finally able to complete without freezing. Thanks so much for coming back to update the thread as well... it really helps others who might run into the same behavior!

By the way, I’m Theresa 👩‍💻, one of the community managers here at Dropbox HQ. Since you’ve been downloading and working with video files on your Mac, I’d love to know… how do you usually use Dropbox? Is it usually to watch videos or do you work a lot with film/creative media?  I’m always curious to hear how people fit Dropbox into their day-to-day.

    Looking forward to hearing more,

    T 😺 (Dropbox Community Manager)

Hi there, Marcelopuravidamedia, let's jump right into this!

I'd like for us to test a couple of things, and examine if the freezing part is coming from your video player, or if the file hasn't been downloaded correctly.

As a first step, can you check the file's size online, and then compare it to the one downloaded to your device?

If I were you I'd also use a different browser to download the content, just to see if this changes things at all. One more thing I'd like for you to check is if there's any difference when you open the file on a different video player other than QuickTime. Can you give this one a go?

Keep me posted, and we'll take it from there!
